I actually prefer smaller viewing angle for privacy. This is a small mobile laptop, right?
The only thing that I don't like about retina is the glossy screen. Way too much glare outside and in non-ideal lighting conditions.

Ohh how i so want to upgrade from my 2009 macbook pro 15" . . . however there is absolutely nothing wrong with my macbook, it runs like new ever since i put my solid state in.

On another note, the great thing about macbooks is that they all look the same for the most part (excluding the retina), so no one knows how old my computer actually is. . . for all they know its a new i7 one

So, I am spending $1474 on a Mac and after 3 years what do you think I can get out of it? I am thinking $800-$900 (if I sell it on ebay).

Now suppose I buy a $800 Asus/Samsung, I can get $450 for it after 3 years. Now, haven't both laptops held their value? or if I buy a $500 refurbished Dell/Thinkpad, I can sell it after 3 years for $250-$300.

I like Apple's build and quality control, but fail to see how they yield a better percent return over their competitors.

You would certainly notice a different in screen real estate options on your 15" 1080P laptop and a 15" MBPR running switchresX. Of course not everyone needs to have multiple windows open simultaneously.

I don't think those are realistic numbers for reselling PCs. They drop far more than that in my experience.

Does anyone know why Apple discontinued their 17'' MBP model? i would love to buy one with retina screen.

My $1,300 Acer laptop was sold for $400 after three years.

I don't think it was as popular as the 13" and 15" models. The 17" was a pretty big laptop, as most 17" are. I don't think 17" laptops are very popular with any computer company these days.

I bought my Sammy Series 7 (first generation) and the price dropped from $1,100 (retail price) to $600-$700 on eBay marketplace after only 6 months
