Not sure why there's an argument on whether mac of pc holds value better. Thought it was pretty well known? Anyways had an Asus G1S for 2k and 1 year later resell value was $500. Had a macbook 13inch aluminum unibody (yes it was a non pro version with aluminum unibody) for $1200ish I think and sold it for $500 4 years later with a bit of blemish but everything on it worked fine. If i was to buy a PC laptop again, it sure as hell better be a great deal or I'll just pick up last years top of the line for half or less.

Isn't Mac OS X essentially a locked down Linux Distro?

I've sold my macbooks every 2-3 years since 2005 and have always gotten around 70% back (though I do take ridiculous care them, even keep the original wrapping inside the box). So, Macbook bought $1050, sold in 3 years for 700, cost $350. Thinkpad, bought for $650, sold for $300. Cost $350. Seems even to me. And that's with a highly regarded thinkpad, try selling an Asus or Toshiba for 50%. Which brings me to my final note. Macbooks are just easier to resell too, simply cause there's less of them, both in quantity and models- Apple might have 4 different 13" in a year. PC maker, 12+, and that's just one manufacturer. There are sooo many pc laptops it makes reselling one a bear. |

Apple makes all their products of decent quality. Dell has low end , mid end , and high end models which really confuses most consumers. A Dell Precision is way higher than any other Dell line and is better than almost every single Windows based PC line but most people will think you bought an Inspirion since they don't know the difference. Apple only offers mid end laptops so if you bought a MacBook Pro , people know exactly what you bought. |

Just bought this ...I was the OP of the refurb thread but Just realized that this is $40 more than the refurb deal totalled to if you can ship to a non taxable state. Worth it in terms of resale value to have the original box and everything plus the free parallels is great... also used Fatwallet to get an additional 2% cashback (on top of my 2% capital one venture) which is 1% more than apple.com so thats a good 15$ more in savings basically leaving me with only $25 more cost but to have a NEW with retail box. plus free parallels.
Thanks op! |

I'm ready to buy a Macbook, and was ready to get the Air 8gb 256gb 13" for $1470, until I came across this deal... Now I'm torn! I love the Air for it's form factor - so thin and light. But for $49 more, should I get the Pro Retina screen and sacrifice the .61 pounds? Am I missing anything? Someone push me in one direction or the other!

I got mine last night. I was going to send it back to get a 15" but using the scale-able retina display, I think I'd rather keep the 13" and keep that extra $600 I'd have spent on the 15".
Maybe I'll upgrade down the line. I do notice a small bit of lag when scrolling, though. I guess that's due to lack of a discrete GPU. Oh well. Good enough for me. |

Ultimately, I told them to cancel the laptop portion of the order and I would just pay for Parallels and the adapter (they can have the card back if they ask for it - I don't care about that) I took the "refurbished" laptop I bought from Apple and it was a good choice - it ended up being a new one in refurb packaging with a 2.9GHz i7 in it instead of the 2.5GHz i5. Unfortunately, I now see that they didn't cancel the order and they put the charge through - if they don't reverse it immediately I'll be forced to file a complaint with Chase. |
