Glad to hear that the Surface Pro works for you, really. That puts you in pretty exclusive company. Personally, I don't include a bunch of cables and USB hubs in my definition of highly portable. I agree that a discrete GPU would be nice. but many of the "ultrabooks" in this price category run off of integrated HD 4000. If you're looking to play new games, this system isn't for you.

Although really, one could make the same argument about the Surface Pro. Last I checked there wasn't a GPU in that. If you're paying 1129.99 for a Surface Pro, you could spend much less and get a 650m or something similar - but you'd be making the sacrifice of portability. Although with you're bottomless accessory bag you might already be doing that, so maybe it wouldn't be a problem?

this mac sounds like a great deal esp. if retina display is a priority. I agree with you for $1400+ they should have atleast thrown in a midrange graphics card instead of just integrated graphics. I guess this is typical premium priced Apple. You have to pay much much more for Apple products....but if they priced everything closer to PCs then Apple would put PCs completely out of business.....

I'm a PC person only due to price/performance, but would prefer Apple if they were closer priced (I like all computer products-Apple and PC).

I just got my rMBP. I have to admit... I'm not too entirely satisfied with the bulkiness. (I've grown to love the thinness of my MBA)

"bulky" may be the wrong term but my dissatisfaction is more about storage. No matter how thin you make it, 15" means its still a pretty big machine. So the idea of using a proprietary SSD solution in order to "save space" feels more like an excuse than reality.

They shouldve either allowed dual Apple SSD or just gone with a standard SSD size. SDers know it more than anyone else, but Apple's pricing is ridiculous because SSD isnt that expensive. So it feels like long term then we'll always be playing catch up when it comes to SSD pricing and that kinda sucks.

try playing DTS audio, you should have terrible clipping issue. or, if you're not careful with os update, it can render your comp unbootable. you obvious know a lot about comp to get your zenbook running ML.

you can't seriously recommend this route for regular consumer or pro who needs apple support. the best option for ML is still on official apple hardware. pay for it, it's worth it.
