Help Setting up QoS on Verizon Fios

Lawreaga 74 10 February 15, 2013 at 06:04 PM
Hi. I have verizon fios router in my house that shares wireless connection to 4 computers at home and many phone devices.

I would like to setup the router give my office computer the best internet service than the rest of the devices.

is that possible? is it called QoS? how do I set it up?

its frustrating when one of the devices is d/ling a large file and it slows down my office computer a lot.

did you read the manual [verizon.com] first

because it's not just enable and disable, which part do you not understand?

QoS is not implemented well in that router. QoS is mainly for things like VoIP not getting the best OVERALL internet connection.

I will add since your in the router configs.

Change the WiFi security to WPA2 -aes and change your said and password.

Vios by default uses wep which can be cracked in 2 sec. Also I think there is a way to reverse engineer the password based on the said they gave you.

I would move over to WPA2-AES and get rid of WPA-TKIP as that can be cracked some what easy. Also make sure WPS is turned off (where you "push" a button and it helps sync up new devices) . For fun once I tested a script to crack routers with WPS and got in to my network in a few mins.

that's my point...that's how it was setup when i got it, ie they realize the security flaws and have adjusted their standard protocol accordingly

Ok cool, its been about 2 years since I set up my then girlfriends vios router. Good to know they moved to wpa, but I would still make sure the other things I said are not turned on.
