What's with these crappy 1366x768 displays? Now to avoid people catching on, they don't list the resolution at all, just 720p (wow, awesome, not).

this is, imo, a much better deal than the i5 3rd gen convertible going for 820+ tax a few days ago.

The XPS 12 convertible was $820?

Because only douchebags who buy Mac's want the High resolution. Most people will not notice the resolution issue's until 15 Inch's or higher. As much as I want the newer XPS 13's with full HD, I think I would pass this version for an XPS 14, although slightly heavier and no SSD, it goes for the same price IF you could find it at your local best buy in clearance. $597 at one of my BB's while others nearby have them for around $6xx

So, gamers, video editors, website creators or photo editors are those that you are going to understand. But also, "only douchebags who buy Mac's want the High resolution".

You need to update your 15yrs of consumer electronics business experience. I've only had one apple product and this resolution is 13" it is a bit low but usable. I have an Alienware m11x w/ 1366x768 (11.6" screen) and that's about adequate. I did have a Macbook 13" before retina and I think that was 1280x800....even in Mac OSX, the font was pretty ugly and low-res

Yeah, I got one of the BB clearance ones. It's much nicer. It has 3rd gen iSeries CPU, 1600x900 res and a touchscreen. This is not.

The XPS 12 was a great deal, too. 3rd gen iSeries CPU, 1920x1080 res IPS, flip screen, and touch.

This is not a deal in my opinion compared to the other recent deals that have been seen.

I apologize, I was more talking about the Retina display 13 inch. If you want a nice display you have to pay more for it. These laptops do come in higher resolution but again most NORMAL users don't need it so Dell sees no need to release many of them. Dell doesn't release many of them so they usually cost more and they are also harder to find. Forgive me for saying that if you choose to bitch about a 13 inch laptops resolution then you aren't a real visual connoisseur anyways. MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO NEED HIGH RESOLUTION, BUY LARGE DISPLAY MONITORS WITH HIGH RESOLUTION IPS PANELS AND AMAZING COLOR. As I said, I have been in the industry a long time and I do Photo Editing, Website building, Video editing and I play games and I sure as hell would never do it on a laptop. You see a desktop is more powerful, more versatile and can cost less. I have a crappy little laptop I have for basic usage while traveling. I learned years ago to never buy a laptop expecting it to ever work how I would use my desktop. I wasted so much time and money and was never satisfied with the out come. So again I will say most NORMAL users do not need a high resolution display and if you want to waste the money on one you are welcome to and if you really want to waste your money buy an Apple.

They had an Ivy Bridge one about a week ago for about $100 more, you might get lucky again soon.

The Apple MacBook Pro's have been out for awhile now and they just increased the specs and lowered the price this week.

I'm sure 13" with 1366x768 is better than 1280x800 on the Mac 13" I had. When I got it from work last year, I was disgusted by how crappy the fonts looked and that apple owners would actually live with it. I dont think there was any options to upgrade either before Retina version came out.
Now because my m11x weigh 4.7lbs and my recent travels across the Atlantic got me shopping for another laptop now. I want to keep it under 3lbs, have about 5hr life, and MUST have ivybridge cpu for HD4000 since HD4000 on my Macbook and my other work Dell Latitude E6430 can still play some games at 720p @30-40fps. Its not as good as Alienware, but I can live with it to save weight (internation flights can be strict on carry-on). And yes, when I want to game "big" I got to my eyefinity setup at home with an overclocked Xeon and Radeon 6950 2GB box (it's about 2yrs old now).

I've been looking at a few ultraportables under 3lbs and $1k, and I can't find many cheaper than Apple Outlet price on 11" Macbook Air w/ Ivybridge given the same hardware. I'd be installing windows right away w/ Bootcamp so I'm not sure if I can live w/o touchscreen going fwd with Win8 Pro.

My human thinking, hmm, let us see. OK, 1080p displays have been around a very long time now on laptops, I think at least 10 years but I could be wrong. In that time the only people who purchased them and really cared were the aforementioned professionals. Then Apple introduces MacBook Pro with Retina display in June 2012 and now everyone in their brother thinks they need High Resolution too. Other computer makers scramble to introduce their laptops with high resolution screens. CES 2013 comes around and all the major computer manufacturers announce more high resolution displays. The only side effect of this mad scramble for the displays and the display manufacturers can't keep up with the high demand so the companies don't produce very many right now. Apple does one thing, it makes every human who don't know how to think for themselves want their product or something like it which then has a ripple effect on other manufacturers. I.E. Mac buying douchebags. As I said, this is only my opinion though.

I don't mind the resolution though would like it to be higher for personal preferences. My biggest issue is with the quality of the screens used. Many still use a standard tn panel and ask a high price. Its the biggest issue I have with my current laptop. The new 1080p screen does have a higher color gamut than the standard screen(72 to 45 percent). That for me is a definite improvement bit the price is too high.

This though is a good deal, my sister looking into a new laptop and this is right in her price range
