51 is for the most part, the same as the 1021, not sure what the 50 would compare to since I never managed to get my hands on one :/

No vsx50 in my area but picked up a vsx40 for $150. My receiver just crapped out so good timing. Thanks for the heads up OP. Bought the $25 warranty just in case.

in this case the deal won't be ruined. This deal will be so YMMV since there are not many VSX-50s around. You gotta call Bestbuy and check or you will be wasting your time.... its a valid clearance price. This whole thing about employees hoarding the deals is extremely rare.

I check it, and see that it was $600 and my store has them for $149, what is stopping me, the Best Buy employee from telling you that "No we don't have it" and then buying it my self to resell on Craigslist for $300?

VSX-51 has two more HDMI ports than the vsx-50. One on the front panel.

Did you guys just look at the "in store clearance" section of your local BB store site? I looked at every BB with a magnolia within a 100 mile radius and not even 1 had a VSx-50 or 51 shown...

Well you make 10 dollars an hour which means you make no money and you have bad credit so you cant buy things in bulk. You are going to take the risk of trying to sell something on craigslist that nobody has bought in two years. BTW last month these were 250 on clearance. I'm sure it happens, but I dont think it's a epidemic at Best Buy. I think people are paranoid sometimes. If you are going to drive 50 miles its best you call and take the chance. Most likely you will talk to a front desk girl who doesnt give a bleep.

Of course if you live 5 miles away the stealth mode and a surprise in store visit is probably they way to go.

YMMV as these stores may only have 1 in-stock which will be either a display model or a return.
In the past I was able to snatch the last model brand new in the box.
