Craftsman Nextec 12V Multi-tool, $19.97 at Sears B&M YMMV

I saw pictures of a model with Quick release for the attachment.

I believe the new model was the reason for Menards to discount it and offer a rebate.

This is a great tool.

If you get this, don't waste money on individual blades, get the accessory kit [sears.com]that gives you much more for the bux.

Also, if you need blades not included in the Acc. Kit, Harbor Freight blades will now work with this tool and they are cheaper, especially if they are on sale. (Don't know about quality differences, though).

For the sake of argument, let's assume the 48 pieces of sandpaper is worth absolutely nothing. As you put it "$40+ for 10 blades," which works out to $4 and some change per blade, is "WAY OVERPRICED!!!" Please share with us where these blades can be had for a price considerably less than $4 per blade. Thanks.

As someone who has the full lineup of Nextec tools, and also has used many different brands of multitool blades, I would strongly advise against getting the Nextec Multitool without the tool-free blade change. I have it and it is a real pain to change blades and in order for the blade not too slip you have to torque the screw really hard which will strip it. The new model, which also has variable speed and comes with the quick charger has been decreasing in price recently and should soon get to the standard $50 that most Nextec tools end up at Sears.

With regards to blades I would stay away from the bargain ones of which you can find all types on Ebay and other places. Even Craftsman is not too great. Get Bosch blades. They cut much quicker and last exponentially longer than any other blade out there, even Fein. Just purchase this adapter: Bosch OIS Adapter [amazon.com] and you will be able to use Bosch and also many other brands in your Nextec Multitool. You can get Bosch blades on sale quite often on Amazon. My average price is about $7 - $8 each. Based on longevity, the price per cut is far far less than the budget blades which dull or break very quickly.

my problem with it is the lack of power. I was just trying to cut a piece of trim, and it get jamming. My Rockwell flew right through it. I love their other tools, but this one wasn't worth the money. Wish I could return it.

What about for $20? Is it worth it for that? Thinking about grabbing one tomorrow to go with the right angle impact, right angle hammer and variable drill I got from previous SD's.

First off your assumption is correct...the sand paper is nearly worthless.

Thanks, but I don't see any blades similar to the ones included in the Craftsman kits selling for under $4 (or even close to it) at Menards [menards.com]. Please provide a link.

I got one of these with battery and charger last November for $30. It self destructed from the vibrations. For the 10 min it did work I had to tighten the blade 10 times. It went back to Hurst Sears last week. I also took back a nib auto hammer,so if you like your craftsman junk tools, watch the clearance rack.

Think You have to look at what you want to use it for. Cutting up drywall and such for $20, I could see it since being cordless could be convenient. But for the price, why not get the Harbour freight one which is more powerful with a bit of a cult following. I might just keep mine since I have a lot of drywall work to do with cutouts, but otherwise, my Rockwell has been solid. I like the one with the quick connect, but I don't mind using the Alan wrench.
