Barclays US Airways Mastercard 35,000 miles w/ First Purchase and Annual Fee Waived (AA miles eventually)

I believe you are referring to United-Continental. It was reported a few days ago that the AA-US Airways merger is now underway.

Didn't see this in the op's post, but I would try to make sure your offer also offers the 10k anniversary points after your first year and every year after. A lot of offers recently have not had that in their disclosure. nevermind, looked through the disclosure and it does mention the 10k anniversary miles, nice deal

The CC offer on their website (when I was looking for flights) did have the anniversary miles. If you get 10k miles it pretty much off sets the $89 a year cost in my opinion.

Too bad they took down the Chairman's offer because they gave you 40k after your first purchase.

Yes, you are right. Didn't notice this when I was applying. Nice bonus, but honestly I'll probably cancel the card before the 1 year annual fee is due. From the application:

Anniversary Bonus Miles: Beginning with the first anniversary of Account opening and every anniversary thereafter, Cardmembers will be awarded 10,000 Anniversary Miles. Anniversary miles will be reflected on the billing statement following payment of your Annual Fee, if applicable.

I called the number above the application because I have an existing Barclay's account I would want to close in receiving the new account. After telling of the promotion I was applying for he was unaware and needed to check with someone. He said there is an $89 fee and it isnt waived, but explalined the benefits received by paying the fee. I declined and said I would stay with my existing account. Perhaps the fee is waived by going direct with the online application.

AA costs you 25K, I assumed this will be 25K,, just 1 domestic ticket. Not really worth for a family of 3 or 4.

I agree that the bonus miles aren't that great, but considering they'll be converted into AA miles eventually and that it's the last chance to get this card before US Airways is gone, I think it's a great opportunity to rack up some extra AA miles.

Also, if husband and wife both get the card, that's 70,000 miles, which, I believe, is enough for 3 domestic tickets.

Just looked again and see that award redemption starts at 20,000 miles.

I had been flying AA only for ten years because I was addicted to their mile system and actually only used the miles once. With over 200k miles between my wife and myself, we can never use them because of availability and layovers (mid week, Tue-Thu flights only usually and most with a stupid layover for example LAX-CUN goes through NYC! basically making it as hard as possible to use). So, I thought all airlines make it extremely hard to use the miles and AA is no exception, I was severely wrong. I got the UNITED deal last year and I love it so far, I am not promoting United, even SW is much easier to use than AA:

1) AA miles crappy times and layovers and Tue-Thu flights mainly. United is available most days of the week (comparing both at lowest miles).

2) AA miles mostly cost a LOT to fly in so called TAXES, I checked France and Spain for example and the taxes on top of the miles were about $800~ with United its usually a mere $30~$40 on top of the usual 40k miles

3) AA requires 21 day advance purchase, United and SW dont as far as I know. If you have less than 21 with AA you pay a LOT of cash on top of the miles. LAst time I had to pay $170 for LAX-NYC flight on top of 25000 miles.
