Why would anyone do the cruise ship thing these days. It's clearly a gamble that has high odds of failing given recent events.
YMMV=You got a better chance of seeing God!

And they obviously have serious issues with engineering and/or crew training. The splendor had the same issue with engine fire 2 years ago. Coincidence? Don't think so. It never happens to other companies, let alone twice in a couple of years for the same cruise line. And let's not forget the Concordia (Costa is owned by Carnival) which sunk due to pilot error. That just says bad overall management of the whole company IMO. I'd rather go with NCL, Princess, RCL, Celebrity, etc. Anyway for this deal, this sounds lukewarm. All their sailings are overpriced so just under $1k is not a bad deal. Seems like about $100 less than on vacationstogo. Cruise compete can probably beat that though. Or you may have some luck waiting until a last minute deal since it's unlikely to fill up in that season and during school year. Still never sailed Disney but $1k/pp for inside during hurricane season on average itinerary doesn't sound worth it. Better offerings on better ships/itineraries from other cruise lines IMO. |

This deal is about Disney.
Yes they are more expensive. They have always been. Almost everyone who has cruised with Disney LOVE the experience. Don't knock the deal because NCL / rccl / carnival has a cheap fare. They are in a different class. Check out cruise critic. I have never been on Disney, but plan to go on one soon. I have cruised 7x on 5 different cruise lines. There are different grades of cruises. The "lowest" is NCL/Carnival/RCCL. It's the Honda accords of cruising. Great cheap fun with a great price. The next level is Princess/Holland America/Celebrity which are the Acura's. same as Honda, just higher class/ quality/ better service. Finally are the Rolls Royce of cruising. Usually smaller ships. SilverSea, Cunard, Regent. These cost the most, are usually all inclusive, and always a classy high end crowd. There's something for everyone, just like cars. We just got back from our first cruise 2 weeks ago, it was on the RCI Allure of the Seas. It was our first cruise and it was 5k for the both of us. It was AWESOME!!! You want your first cruise to be your best experience. Carnival is the cheapest of the cruise brands. You get what you pay for. Carnival has had so many problems with their ships. They have to cut costs somewhere to offer such cheap rates. You want your first cruise experience to be on a ship with caca and piss sloshing in the hallways? Royal Caribbean, Int'l is supposed to be a higher end brand. Disney is probably on par with RCI. Princess cruises are supposed to be to notch, high end luxury and service. My advice is to book the cheapest stateroom on the nicest cruise brand you can afford. There's lots more advice on: www.cruisecritic.com RCI, currently has the largest and newest ships on the ocean, the Oasis and the Allure. Princess should be completing their newest ship in a couple months. It's no where near as big as the Oasis and Allure, but it has a glass floor sky walk over the ocean on the side of the ship. Princess has smaller ships but a higher staff to guest ratio. RCI's ratio on the Allure of the Seas was 1 staff per 3 guests. You can get good prices on the higher end brand cruise lines depending on season and if you book either very last minute (a week before departure, if they have rooms to fill, usually they do...this only works if you live near a port, cuz airfare with such short notice will kill any savings) or way in advance (a year or more). We have taken 4 Disney cruises as well as 2 Carnivals and 2 RCs and by far Disney was the best, especially if you have kids. The other lines do not even come close when it comes to service, food quality, children's activities and overall condition of the staterooms and public ares of the ship. It costs more because you get what you pay for. You can best believe that those people on that Carnival ship paid close to peanuts for their trip. Look what it got them!

This are for their shortest cruises available, like 3-4 days all from South Florida. LOW END LINES RCCL (best) NCL Carnival (worst) MEDIUM END Disney (kids LOVED it, but if I went alone I would probably jump ship after the first day). HIGH END Holland America Celebrity Princess LUXURY havent done it yet

I've been on a 4 day & 8 day Carnival and a 7 day RCCL. I was also left behind by RCCL (at no fault of my own) after they promised to wait for me and others, so I didn't get my 2nd trip on them. . That has not skewedy opinion of the classes. There are huge differences with the newer ships and 3/4 day cruises vs 7 day trips. Carnival used to be all "neon", them the made the ships classier, which I prefer. I stand behind my opinion. Last edited by airboss; 02-17-2013 at 09:30 AM.. |
