Bought this last Sunday. I went to my local OD last night and I asked if they would honor a competitor's coupon. Then I showed her my receipt that I bought it last Sunday and asked her if she can adjust the price. She called in a manager, they discussed it a bit, and finally did the override! I overheard a little of their talking though, which sounded like the next person who goes in won't be too lucky.

I just came from the store (48138). I got the last one in a box and they honored the Staples coupon!!!

They're back in stock in our local store, so on a whim a walked in with my Staples $75 off coupon and they accepted it -- no hassles at all!!! So, now I've got 2 laptops. I'm either going to return the one that's not open using the original receipt, or see if they'll refund me $75 and then I'll give the 2nd laptop to my mother-in-law.

Can you return the laptop with a different receipt? Don't they link the serial numbers to the receipt?

Went to the local Office Depot this morning with a Staples coupon and didn't have any trouble but I never have trouble using a Staples coupon there--probably because Staples is so close. Definitely wouldn't have bought this computer without the coupon but with the coupon I couldn't not buy it.

Well, that's been discussed quite a bit and I think the policy is too vague to be construed as being SOLELY for identical in stock items when the coupon doesn't specify any particular item. Staples DOES, after all have comparable products in a similar price range. If they want you to buy a computer from OD instead of Staples they should honor Staples coupon...

Can't hurt to call and tell them you haven't even opened it and that you got a Staples coupon in email. Ask if you can come in and get an adjustment. If they act weird just say "well I could always return and rebuy or return and then go to Staples." I think if people handle it right they would rather have a happy customer than a lost one...

I keep telling people you aren't doing a price match you are asking them to follow company policy and HONOR competitor coupons. The coupon does NOT state it is only for a certain model/s and they DO have roughly comparable products. If they want you to buy a PC from OD, they match staples And/or honor their coupons...

If they let you use the coupon on the one they should have no trouble adjusting the price on the old one. I mean they wouldn't really have a leg to stand on since you already know they did it once. You could always return both computers and I'm SURE they don't want that...

Got denied in Escondido, ca. They showed me a "Corporate email" from a manager stating that any use of the $75 coupon must have the employee call the local Staples and the local Staples has to have the same model/configuration in stock and they must match the price and honor the coupon. Basically, the email says anyone is SOL cause they have few models in common. But I doubt if its corporate, I think its a local manager sending it out to all the stores to help the bottom line. I wound up getting a couple Toshiba's from Staples, from another thread for about the same price, but no hassles.

Shot down at one off too another.

They now have a memo in their stores stating to only match identical items with point of sale price and coupon from staples. So you can use the competitor coupon only if staples have the same identical product.
