I got one of these on black friday, I have their full size one too, the MFC-8660dn (costco version). This smaller version is great, main problem I have with it; it only takes 1 sheet at a time from the manual tray, which could be a big deal for someone who prints envelopes or something of that nature. Also, the fan is noisier and takes 10 minutes to turn off after the last thing it printed.

I have had one of these for quite awhile myself. If you dont need color, this is hard to beat no matter how much or little you print. My only complaint is like mentioned earlier, the fan is pretty loud and stays running for several minutes after you print. I went with this laser since I really dont need to print much and use scanner pretty frequently. With inkjets and with the volume I print, seemed like I only would get about 15 pages or so out of an ink cart before it would dry up or whatever they do from non-use...in other words, pop in new carts, print a few pages, several months later, another few pages, same again, then try to do the same again and no go, need new carts again. Laser toner is there no matter how long it takes you to use it up. If you did happen to be a heavy user, I have seen toner for these as low as $16 for high yield, which surely will get you many more pages then an ink cart, so win there too.
A few thoughts on some of the other comments.... If you need wireless, there is a wireless model of this that goes on sale (or used to anyways) for not much more then this one. I forget the model # off the top of my head, but might be something to watch for. While not wireless, this one IS a network printer, so you can connect it straight to a router via cat5 if practical and operate in the same fashion as wireless. Drum replacement....ALL laser printers need this at some point. Considering the cost of the printer and the typical home environment, you may never get to the point of needing a new drum...and in the end wether you replace the drum or just scrap it for a new printer if you ever did reach that point, you likely are still way ahead of the curve vs all the ink carts you would of gone through with an inkjet. |

Here is one [newegg.com] for $25 This particular one will give you wireless N access, which most wireless printers don't. requiring your wireless environment to maintain B/G/N instead of just N. |
