I think they are. It doesn't happen often, but once in a while the Eneloop stops charging way too early, without the display of the La Crosse it would be a guessing game when the device you're using them in stops working prematurely.

The last time this happened, one of my AA showed full after only 300 or so mAh, but then the voltage was under 1.4, so I knew it wasn't full. I set it on discharge, and by the time it was done it showed >2100mAh. With the stock charger, especially the later 2-channel charger, you simply won't know what is going on.

I have the earlier 4-channel stock Eneloop charger. The only thing I use it for is to revive a battery that was discharged too deeply and it registers null on the La Crosse.

One of my batteries would only show as Null, so this basically shorts between the dead one and a fully charged one to put just a little charge on it. It's just enough for the charger to recognize the battery.

I have the bc-9009 that I paid $35 for. This is a pretty good deal, but I would read a bit first to make sure this isn't the model that overheats and melts down. I think I remember reading the new ones don't do that, but I'm not sure.

also, which this handled the high-voltage batteries that go into tactical flashlights... If I had to buy one charger again, I would get one that supported more than the standard battery sizes.

Wondering the same thing. I've been using a Duracell charger (model CEF14NC) that came with Duracell AA batteries purchased a few years ago (charges up to 4 AAs at a time). No issues using this stock charger on AAs for game controllers. I have read several threads on chargers, and noticed some people really (and I mean really lol) get into the particulars of charging batteries. But maybe a stock charger is fine for the average user?

It all depends on what you plan to use the batteries for. I do alot of photography and the flashes use the AA eneloops. I have noticed with a stock energizer charger that the batteries do not last as long anymore. Tried a friends BC-700 and it revitalized the batteries back to original. So getting one for myself to go through all my batteries and keep then in top shape.

I also was not happy with the Eneloop charger. The Eneloop would show full after charging, while my battery tester showed half or low. For sure, these low battery could not power up single LED. Threw away the Eneloop after a few month and went back to my old charger.

Despite Amazon reviews on poor durability, picked up the La Crosse this morning when I got the Slickdeals alert. Hope this La Crosse lasts :-)

Great. Been waiting for this. Lowest price is $22 back in 2010 but not a bad deal at $29 either.
