I am right there with you but I disagree, most of my laptops have been in the 600-900 range, I just picked up a 17R Special Edition for sub $600 with tax and shipping, not bad at all.

Yeah, you will need one to hold the SSD drive. I've just added a samsung 250GB SSD for OS boot drive (deal from newegg a few weeks ago). This XPS 8500 is flying with an SSD drive and 24GB of Ram!!!

it was a good deal. Those buying the upper priced (>$1000). Comment - I consider those way overpriced either because they have blu-ray; more memory etc. Those additional items can be
bought elsewhere for a lot cheaper price even adding in the 25% discount. I just wanted a good machine for under $600. I also had been waiting for this (discount) was expecting only a 20%. With all the recent & continuing discounted new sales, though; I expect a lot more returns to start showing up.
Maybe the reason for the 25%.

You don't have to. SSD doesn't have any moving parts. I just put mine in the HD bay without mounting it or anything.

Remember that a scratch & dent gets a further $50(approx?) discount which brings that 819 price (refurbished?) as about the same. Went thru, that one mentioned at $789 - has the same major specs but is a refurbished -

Is this a good deal at $621 shipped? I'm buying it for my wife, but would like a decently powered laptop (I'd love to play some games on it, but don't necessarily need a gaming computer). 13" seems a bit small...she doesn't want anything bigger than 15" though. Should I go a different route? I really want to keep the total cost as close to $700 as possible.

I am on my 3rd Dell Outlet Refurb and have to say I am impressed. In fact, I just bought the Inspriron One 2330 as a refub and had to check if my 1yr old laptop was also refurb since it hasn't had a single huccup (while my brand new Samsung Series 7 had an issue within months). The Inspiron One was over half off and basically looks and acts brand new. Dropped in 8GB of RAM and it flies.

Hope that helps anyone on the fence.

I'm thinking that I'd rather go with a 15". They seem to have more bang for the buck. Any suggestions on a nice 15" laptop for around $700??

14z ultrabook for around $400 depending on options is a great deal.

Considering its the older 2nd Generation i5, I think the L322X with Intel Core 3rd Generation i5-3317U for a little more would be the better deal. It was a bit cheaper during last month's promotion.
