Retina is a better buy.
This model doesn't offer anything special. The 1280 x 800 resolution reminds me of the first Fujitsu tablet that I bought. Last edited by dubleo; 02-17-2013 at 09:43 AM.. |

If you want to upgrade all the time , you might as well buy (or build) a desktop instead. The Mac OS is a very limited OS so it has limited appeal as well. Last edited by dubleo; 02-17-2013 at 10:39 AM.. |

The Retina is Apple's flagship line so I hope they stop making the other lines.
People who want to have a decent ability to upgrade tend to buy Windows based laptops. You'd be surprised to know that some Windows based laptops use a MXM slot for the GPU. Some Windows laptops can take multiple SSDs or HDDs ( yes , even in RAID configuration). Some Windows based laptops have support for multiple user changeable batteries ( one main + one modular). Some Windows based laptops have four SO-DIMM slots. You can change the wireless card in some laptops as well since many companies make drivers for Windows 7 or 8. So when your wireless N card gets outdated , you can get get a wireless 802.11ac card to replace it and then install the correct drivers. Mac OS has very limited driver support so some upgrades wouldn't make sense on a Mac. Last edited by dubleo; 02-17-2013 at 10:49 AM.. |

The 13" Pro still has a very limited amount of upgrades. HDD , RAM , optical drive? |

This argument of "if you want to upgrade, buy something else" is poor. Mac OS is appealing for many reasons, not all of which necessitate or benefit from the retina display. Imagine 2 years from now. 8GB retina with 128GB of HD space vs (potentially) 32GB of ram, 2 Hard drives (replace optiical drive with caddy) one for Storage, both much larger than 128GB, as the price continues to drop on storage. Its not a black and white situation, so don't try to make it one. |

2 years ago I was using 8 GB on my tablet. 8 GB is still a lot for a regular person. If you are a programmer , extra RAM will help but the 1280 x 800 resolution is a bit of a problem. Last edited by dubleo; 02-17-2013 at 10:57 AM.. |

In all seriousness, it may come down to "In X years, how much can i sell each for vs upgrade, and does that monetary difference make sense at that time relative to what I'm paying for it now" Last edited by jstoneky; 02-17-2013 at 10:57 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
