Screen resolution is a dealbreaker. Just bought a MBA 13 at $1066 the MbA has 1440x900 resolution, better than the MBP.

But if you really need a MBP, this is a good price.

BTW MBA is much faster than the MBP in everyday operations.

Can we please have a few more people chime in and try to talk people out of buying a Mac Laptop and get them to buy a Windows based Desktop? They are completely interchangeable and everyone that has an Apple Laptop can obviously replace it with a Windows Desktop instead. Sheesh.

But OSX is pretty much locked to Apple hardware ( Hackintosh is another thing).

Yeah if trading a better display and more cash for less ports, less RAM, less options for harddrive upgrades, and no optical drive is a priority.

Save the $1400 and build a crazy desktop or buy a gaming laptop, then use the leftovers for a Mac mini or build a hackintosh.. Best of both worlds

Even the most powerful Macbooks are bested by a moderate desktop or high end laptop, and you are really only buying it for OSX (and portability of course)..

I never understood why people spend so much on a powerful Mac when a PC equivalent is much cheaper. I suppose if you need to use an OSX specific app that is hungry for CPU power, but whatever that app is doing could probably be done on the PC too no??

8gb of ram is low by today's standards,

You get an excellent screen, but for me as a programmer, I'm tending to favor this over the rMBP.

Imagine 2 years from now. 8GB retina with 128GB of HD space vs (potentially) 32GB of ram, 2 Hard drives (replace optiical drive with caddy) one for Storage, both much larger than 128GB, as the price continues to drop on storage.

27" @ 2560 x 1440 or 13.3" @ 2560 x 1600. I wonder which looks nicer to the eyes...

Retina is a better buy.

This model doesn't offer anything special.

The 1280 x 800 resolution reminds me of the first Fujitsu tablet that I bought.

No it's not. Vast majority of people will never utilize even close to 8gb of memory.


Why? As a programmer, you need pixel real estate and retina display gives you better flexibility.


2 years from now, 8GB or RAM and 128GB will still be more than adequate for most people.

27" when you have a choice

13" screen is hard on the eyes because it is so small.

27" is also viewed from farther away than a laptop screen so resolution comparison isn't apples to apples.
