Which Dell do you have? The XPS 12?

Apple could have easily added a higher resolution screen to this model instead of just leaving it for the Retina. The only reason I could think why they didn't do it was because of the cost.

is that model number correct?
Good question...the "Z" represents the country it was originally sold in:

The Mac OS is a very limited OS so it has limited appeal as well.
Limited to many people but not to all. Many people will never need or know the full potential of Mac OS but it is very popular in scientific community, especially in Physics and Biochemistry. Here is a link to an old article [macnewsworld.com] but it still holds true now.

No mention of warranty anywhere on the page. Will this come with the full Apple 1 year warranty?

Save the $1400 and build a crazy desktop or buy a gaming laptop, then use the leftovers for a Mac mini or build a hackintosh.. Best of both worlds Wink

Even the most powerful Macbooks are bested by a moderate desktop or high end laptop, and you are really only buying it for OSX (and portability of course)..

I never understood why people spend so much on a powerful Mac when a PC equivalent is much cheaper. I suppose if you need to use an OSX specific app that is hungry for CPU power, but whatever that app is doing could probably be done on the PC too no??

8gb of ram is low by today's standards, the retina has no upgrade longevity compared to the regular mbp. You get an excellent screen, but for me as a programmer, I'm tending to favor this over the rMBP. I haven't pulled the trigger on either yet, so still undecided, but don't count this one out.
I dunno, maybe try writing more efficient code Wink

If you really want to upgrade , why buy a laptop that has less upgrade options than the Windows based equivalents?

If you want to upgrade all the time , you might as well buy (or build) a desktop instead.

The Mac OS is a very limited OS so it has limited appeal as well.
OSX is a BSD of unix so.....

But OSX is pretty much locked to Apple hardware ( Hackintosh is another thing).

With the extra $400 for the rMBP you could pick up one of those nice shimian/cat leap/microcenter/monoprice monitors with the high resolution that uses the same panel as the cinema displays too... Food for thought..

I agree that 8GB ram should be plenty for even moderately heavy use.

27" @ 2560 x 1440 or 13.3" @ 2560 x 1600. I wonder which looks nicer to the eyes...
