If you really want to upgrade , why buy a laptop that has less upgrade options than the Windows based equivalents?

If you want to upgrade all the time , you might as well buy (or build) a desktop instead.

The Mac OS is a very limited OS so it has limited appeal as well.
"Mac OS is a very limited OS so it has limited appeal as well." Your logic is mind-boggling.... Everybody has then own preference but I can guarantee you more people would take a mac over a windows if money was not a factor. This Macbook Pro has nearly the same upgrade options as most Windows laptops. (ram, upgrade ssd/hdd, remove ssd/hdd for raid array)

The Retina is Apple's flagship line so I hope they stop making the other lines.

People who want to have a decent ability to upgrade tend to buy Windows based laptops.

You'd be surprised to know that some Windows based laptops use a MXM slot for the GPU. Some Windows laptops can take multiple SSDs or HDDs ( yes , even in RAID configuration). Some Windows based laptops have support for multiple user changeable batteries ( one main + one modular). Some Windows based laptops have four SO-DIMM slots.
You can change the wireless card in some laptops as well since many companies make drivers for Windows 7 or 8. So when your wireless N card gets outdated , you can get get a wireless 802.11ac card to replace it and then install the correct drivers.

Mac OS has very limited driver support so some upgrades wouldn't make sense on a Mac.
You can create a raid array on the a Macbook Pro....

My $250 dell has better resolution than this.
But if you'd one of those people who enjoys being pocket raped by crApple...
Care to compare more than one aspect of a laptop dipshit? Also you seem to have misspelled Apple.

Save the $1400 and build a crazy desktop or buy a gaming laptop, then use the leftovers for a Mac mini or build a hackintosh.. Best of both worlds Wink

Even the most powerful Macbooks are bested by a moderate desktop or high end laptop, and you are really only buying it for OSX (and portability of course)..

I never understood why people spend so much on a powerful Mac when a PC equivalent is much cheaper. I suppose if you need to use an OSX specific app that is hungry for CPU power, but whatever that app is doing could probably be done on the PC too no??
I built a hackintosh using a quad-core i7, 12GB of ram, and a GTX 560 Ti SLI config. It was okay but it was not great. So I just buy base Macbooks when I get them on sale, use them for a few months and then sell them for a profit. This way, I can always get the newest macbook fore free. I scrapped my hackintosh to make it a Windows rig. It now is a hexa-core i7, 24GB of ram, and a 3GB GTX 580.

How well does SLI and 3D gaming work ( as in 3D glasses needed) in the Mac OS?

To all potential buyers reading this thread: take what everyone has said (positive and negative) as a inky dinky grain of salt and make your own damn choice based on your needs and budget. Can't always have your hands held in every purchasing aspect

Isn't MD101LL/A the newest model?
Someone posted earlier, but LL = sold in USA. Here's a good link showing each model suffix:
https://discussions.apple.com/thr...0&tstart=0

So looks like Z/A = Singapore

I try to avoid buying non LL/A models because of resale down the road, and plus don't some countries have localized keyboards (printed on the keycaps)?

I originally looked this page up because I bought from eBay seller johny641 (deals are often posted here on SD, for example: http://slickdeals.net/f/5664868-johny641-via-ebay-New-Apple-MacBook-Pro-MD101LL-A-13-3-Inch-Laptop-NEWEST-VERSION-979-with-ebay-bucks?v=1)

I bought from there and it ended up being E/A, and there was NO mention of this In the auction page at all (referenced LL/A in title, description, etc). It was a pain and I had to pay return shipping. I really hate eBay sometimes, since I can't even leave negative feedback for misleading auction and I see this seller is even featured in eBay's own "deal of the day."

Retina 13" Pro or Retina 15" Pro if you are choosing an Apple laptop

I'd wait for Haswell before buying either though.

If you want a Windows based laptop , there are lots of high end ones to choice from but you might not be able to afford them.

Here are some simple examples:
For a 15.6" workhorse I'd recommend the HP Elitebook 8570w ( get the 10 Bit IPS panel option)
For a 13" tablet I'd recommend the Fujitsu Lifebook T902

Panasonic ToughBooks are nice as well.

It does not work... I have an Nvidia 3D Vision set up but I do not use it since 3D gaming/movies are overated anyways. Mac OS does take SLI but only works with a select few cards. Why would I need to SLI on a mac? LMAO

I guarantee it since I have 2 reasons. My first reason is that Macs hold their value many times better than any Windows computer EVER WILL. Secondly, if you were to poll people using an SRS, I would say over 50% would take the Mac over the Windows since I know many people that would love to have a Mac but can not afford one. Let me ask you, Would you take a free Mac over a Windows laptop?

Do you know what the word or concept of guarantee means?

The funny thing is that Apple laptops are so cheap since they don't have the quality of this [cdw.com] machine.

I wonder how many people that buy Apple laptops can afford that.

Buying a Windows based machine doesn't mean that you can't afford a Mac based one.

You don't sing, so you can't criticize Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, 2Chainz.
You don't make movies, so you can't criticize Battlefield Earth, Gigli, Santa with Muscles, etc.
You don't raise your own cows and bake your own buns, so you can't criticize McDonalds.

The 1280 x 800 resolution reminds me of the first Fujitsu tablet that I bought.

Don't knock 1280x800. I have the previous generation of this Macbook and have grown to love the resolution. On a 13" monitor, it's perfect. Granted, my Macbook isn't my primary machine, so I might feel differently otherwise, but I really enjoy things on the screen being a size that's still quite legible if your face is 3-4' from the screen.
