27" @ 2560 x 1440 or 13.3" @ 2560 x 1600. I wonder which looks nicer to the eyes...

I own a 27" iMac with that resolution, and while I quite like the retina display on the new Macbooks, I'm never disappointed in my iMac. The 27" is a beautiful display, surpassing anything I've ever seen that wasn't retina. If I had to choose, I'd take the 27" every time.

Macbooks are cool for the first timers so they can wave the yuppy card around at the starbucks. Once that sensation goes away and they realize they paid for an overpriced toy that can't even run windows out of the box, they get something different.

8gb of ram is low by today's standards, the retina has no upgrade longevity compared to the regular mbp. You get an excellent screen, but for me as a programmer, I'm tending to favor this over the rMBP. I haven't pulled the trigger on either yet, so still undecided, but don't count this one out.

This argument of "if you want to upgrade, buy something else" is poor. Mac OS is appealing for many reasons, not all of which necessitate or benefit from the retina display. Imagine 2 years from now. 8GB retina with 128GB of HD space vs (potentially) 32GB of ram, 2 Hard drives (replace optiical drive with caddy) one for Storage, both much larger than 128GB, as the price continues to drop on storage.

Its not a black and white situation, so don't try to make it one.
I can't believe this is even a discussion. I bought this model macbook, and upgraded all the hardware (replaced SSD 512, 16gb of ram), trust me i enjoyed every bit of maxing out my book instead of doing it through apple and paying triple (arbitrary) the price to max out my book. Go ahead, try and take the same book and max it through apple, see how much it costs. GL suckers that are buying the retina model with the 128gb hd, and 8gb of ram. Suckers. All for what, retina display? If you want to be wowed by your screen, do it on a real screen like a desktop monitor, or your TV.

edit: Honestly this is silly, are we really on slickdeals.net? Where people usually have sense about buying, and loathe being scammed? Cause it's a scam when you buy a new retina model only to find out you can't upgrade shit. Have you guys not read the ifixit breakdown? This is the most un-upgradable hunk of metal ever, almost everything soldered on. But wait you can replace the SSD, so they say. It's an msata port, so you also now have to pay a premium on an SSD that's already considered a premium. Use brain people -_-

Why would anyone buy this when there is a sale on Dell laptops on the front page? Do you hate money?

It's not MSATA, it's a proprietary apple connector. You have to upgrade the SSD with an apple-compatible drive. Also, it's not a standardized 1-apple-connector, they switch it up between different MBA/MBP/MB models. So have fun hunting down the right drive for your system
Quote from http://arstechnica.com/apple/2012/06/ivy-bridge-macbook-air-features-revised-ssd-module/ :
In an effort to eke out yet more performance from the custom, NAND flash-based SSD modules used as primary storage, Apple has apparently adopted a slightly revised connector with a different pinout compared to previous MacBook Air SSD modules. Unfortunately, that means there will be a significant delay before third-party alternatives are available, though Apple does now offer a 512GB option—double the previous maximum.
Also, have fun with your "fully upgraded" dual core macbooklaugh out loud

I can guarantee you more people would take a mac over a windows if money was not a factor.
Sure, if it had no inherent value more people would 'take' it. And they would turn around, install windows on it, and use that. Smartest thing Apple did was make it easier to install windows on their computers.

Care to compare more than one aspect of a laptop dipshit? Also you seem to have misspelled Apple.
Getting a little emotional there?
He did compare more than one aspect. Screen resolution and cost.
