Looks like it's points to use for a future purchase. People need to stop subtracting these costs from the total. It doesn't work that way. If you get $1 in points for a $1 item, you can't say 1-1 = 0, and say you got the item for free. It's getting $2 of items for $1, at best a 50% discount.
Often, points are restricted on what you can use them for, (no coupons, discounts, etc.) or you wait too long and they expire, or you buy something you didn't really need in the first place. Anyway, the deal should be stated as $1999 with $200 toward a future purchase on rakuten. |

I just used shopdiscover for 5% cashback, plus the 10x points...effectively netting me 15% cashback, kind of.
The 5% SD is only on the purchase price, not tax...so that's 5% of $1999... SD: $99.95 Points: 19,990 = $199.90 Total "cash back" = $299.85 which is a net CB of 13.84% I am in NY so tax was $200.65, which basically cancels out the points reward, but I still get the $99.95 SD cashback, so that puts me at $1899 for this...not a bad deal, in my opinion. However, apple.com refurb $1779.99+tax=1,927.99, less SD 5%=1830.65 So for an extra $70, I get a new laptop. I know apple refurbs are arguably "new" but that is subjective. |

Still did better on brand new open box 1630 at best buy on 1/25/13 with 2.25/$1 RZ points which negates out the tax as I will create Amazon GC out of it. I like what netownium said about points, especially regarding posts. I am still tracking Retina Mac prices because I have 60 days return and want to make sure they will price match or refund if I find lower. To put a low price screws it up. Apple refurb is still a better deal than this and I don't think its subjective because of Apple's strict guidelines. Also, if you buy direct from Apple, the Genius Bar is far more likely to do you a solid in the event something catastrophic happens to your Mac (found out from experience)....
