For comparison, this was $58 at Fry's on BF 2012, $75 at Worst Buy in September 2011, and $70 at Target and Staples on BF 2010. Back in the good old days when HD prices weren't as artificially jacked up as they are these days. But oh yes, there is no inflation... hasn't been for years. Uncle Ben of the Fed says so, and whatever he says is the truth. I see his truth daily in the prices I pay everywhere.

Picked up one from BF. These drives were from 2010. Good thing they still work though. Guess some stores stockpiled them while they were cheap.

what's inside?
need a cheap/big/fast drive for useless cache data, and want the external usb3 enclosure... does this satisfy 'fast' if I use it as a sata drive w/out the enclosure? and yeah, inflation is retarded. I dropped my rent by 80% in 2 the last couple years and still can't buy shit |

 Careful, there...Although this drive is somewhat big, it's likely ~5400rpm, so not all that fast. Fast would probably mean >=7200rpm (You said "cache," so I'm thinking small files. A modern 5400rpm drive with high platter density can move big files pretty fast, once it finally finds the data. Small files need faster access time for best performance, to overgeneralize. )USB 2.0 - This enclosure is not USB 3.0. Worse, I seem to recall that it's very hard to open these enclosures without breaking the tabs that hold them closed. Cache drive? Will 500GB do? Maybe look for some deal like this... Western Digital WD Black WD5003AZEX 500GB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive Newegg $64.99 shipped ...and then shop/wait for a deal on a solid USB 3.0 external enclosure. Just some thoughts - HTH. |
