I did a bit more research. Benchmarks on the G1610 and A6-5400k are relatively rare. But, according to Passmark, the G1610 is slightly faster.
The nicer MB in the A6-5400k bundle means you have more upgradablity in the future though.
As stated in the post it is BM for this deal and not Frys.com. Combo's have rarely ever been online from Fry's even when they had them weekly in the past. They don't like to deal with MB and CPU returns online.
If you look at what I quoted, I was replying about the motherboard that was -$5AR. The items on Frys.com with ridiculous pricing have usually been gone for months.
ok. bought one after work, running into Frys this evening (I didn't want to pay shipping $8.99 for this cheap combo).
$58 AR Celeron G1610 & MSI H61M P31MB/G3 CPU Combo. It's G3 version (latest per MSI web)
tried to install initially tonight.
easy and smooth.
the mb is a little old and very tiny. it has VGA and DVI, no HDMI port. but good enough for my 10-year old son. the mb form is rating at mATX, but actually its size just like a Nook package size, even smaller than a college textbook. it's smallest I have seen.
It's solid and powerful at this price. I re-used 2x2GB DDR3 1066 RAM and an Antec case (no 24-pin DIN). audio, video, nic all are built-in. I like the dual video ports (VGA + DVI).
I am testing the newly-built PC. it's just a couple of hours after I bought the combo this evening.
Well I went into the store looked at the board with the newspaper ads and went and grabbed a MSI H61M-E33 W8 w/HDMI and not a MSI H61M-P31 w/DVI. The price and rebate is the same for both MoBo but since the ad is now down I can't tell you what version was posted in the Phoenix NEWSPAPER only that they had a shitload of the E33's and I don't recall if they had P31's. Anyway the salesman set the sales price for it and my mistake for not reading the the posting correctly. It was never mentioned during the transaction that I had substituted the wrong board although he did ask me if I wanted the i3-3240 deal now that I think about it. I did not know until after I bought it that it had HDMI which made me very happy as it saved me from grabbing the nVidia 220 and putting it in for HDMI.
Sometimes Frys' does allow Motherboard substitutions on their deals
Update: Fry's website shows only open box items on P31's at the Phoenix store
