Don't let Home Depot's Husky brand or Stanley off the hook either. If this Craftsman set weren't made in the USA I probably would have went cheap and got Harbor Freight or just bought the Husky brand. I had a Husky ratchet with some nice teeth on it that felt much better in my hand than the Craftsman ratchets in this set that seemed to have larger gaps between the teeth. |

Agreed on Husky and Stanley. Might as well get the tool that works best for the price, since the companies have totally de-valued their brands. Like everything else in China, they make these tools in various random contract factories to customer-spec. Can't trust generic tools. Luckily for me, I have multiple sets of US made Craftsman/Proto/SK tools that I inherited, plus a bunch of defunct brands from the 30s/40s/50s. They really don't make 'em like they used to! |

Do either of you think it's the quality of the workmanship, quality of the material or both? |

this is actually a great deal come to think of it.
is this set Made in USA though? (the 192 pc one is) side note - anyone know the standard size of those toilet flange bolts at the bottom of the toilet? for that i guess i could just use an adjustable wrench i guess...no need to worry about if one of the wrenches in this kit would fit that Last edited by Medic311; 02-19-2013 at 08:24 AM.. |

If you work on stuff enough though, you'll probably notice the difference in quality. I'm now pretty convinced that those cheap sockets are a big reason why I rounded off some bolts in the past. The craftsman sockets had a nice snug fit compared to the cheap stuff. If you're working on a car and one of your tools fails, you've gotta get into another car (assuming you have more than 1) and go to the store. At least you know with Craftsman you can exchange it for free. I'm not buying Snap On quality, but I would like a decent tool that I wouldn't run into that situation too often. If you're a shade tree mechanic doing side jobs, I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave a customer hanging to go to the store because of your poor quality tools. in for 1 of these. i am returning the 192pc set that i got for $115 and the other sets that i was going to keep instead of the 192 pc. this saved me a ton of money, a TON of money
this set can't be beat for $78.32 then i got 5% CB from Mr Rebates and then another 1% back from Chase Corwin - how can i rep you more than once??? let me know lol |

I just cancelled my order of this set and two additional items. It said all items were in stock (5 or more in stock of all items) when I ordered, but when I got my confirmation to pick up my order, it said this tool set was out of stock and it could be shipped to me free with standard shipping. That does me no good. I could have just gotten free two day shipping by selecting to use my free trial of SYWR max had they not lied and said it was in stock. Waste of time.....
+1 rep for OP regardless. Last edited by rabidcabbage; 02-19-2013 at 11:48 AM.. |

Sounds like there are still some Made in USA sets in the supply chain. You could order it and see what you get. If it's stamped "Made in USA," then this is a no brainer. Great deal! If not, you can decide for yourself if you want to keep it or return it. |
