YMMV. I had bought two drives about 6 months ago or so from two different vendors around $120 each. Opened them ups and put in Synology NAS. One drive was Made in Thailand and another one Made in China. The made in china drive failed with in a month after installation and I had to RMA the drive. The other drive is still running. If you are not in hurry I suggest wait for western digital RED drives

Anyway, I need another 3TB of archival space and although I vehemently dislike the Seagate of old I have to admit their stock is rising, at least in my book, as WD has developed a lot warts (high prices, ridiculous bloatware/driver, USB via PCB in lieu of SATA). I'm far from white knighting but I'll begrudgingly confess the most recent Seagate drives I've purchased no longer click and whirr loudly like defective robot kitty cats and were priced far more competitively than their WD analogues...only time can answer the question of longevity but this is true with any drive.
Also, the enclosure is surprisingly aesthetically neutral so points for that.

[TL/DR] Seagate I hate thee but I'll give credit where it's due...

I had opened carefully with out damaging the clips. I was able to box it back the same way and get RMA. I choose Credit card RMA method where they ship drive first and hold $ 1 until they get the faulty drive back. All in all I had to pay one way shipping.

Looks like the Go Flex, they made 2 versions, one with a 3 platter design and one with a 4 platter design...one costco in town sold one, the other sold the other. The 3 platter got smoking hot, 65c idle...so I returned it and went to the other costco and got the 4 platter and it ran much cooler... even Seagate said it was too hot.

which has cheaper cost to RMA, segate or western digital? Which has better warranty? Last thing. If you buy this on ebay will it still qualify for extended warranty protection through mastercard, visa or american express? Thanks!
