DEAD/OOS

Was walking though Target yesterday and noticed the Westinghouse 50" LED 1080p 60Hz TV [target.com] was on limited clearance for $299.99 (reg $599.99 previous sales for $499.99)

Talked to the guy at the tech department and while there were none out front he said there were a few in the back and the deal was live (Sawmill Rd/Dublin OH location)

Might be worth checking out to see if other stores had the same offer

i see your point. but still though, if you had one of your family members go through that... (and certainly wouldn't wish that for anyone!), hopefully / perhaps you wouldn't phrase is like that?

on a separate but related note...

did you guys know that NRA lobbied to preclude the conduct of research on gun violence?

since Newtown, CT, there's been at least 2,309 deaths attributable to firearms

Oh. You were talking about Sandy Hook. Take it to the Podium.

A twitter feed is not a valid statistic.

Here are some other statistics for you though:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

The number of people who die from firearms every year is a small fraction of the population. We shouldn't rush to give up our freedoms to save a relatively small number of lives. The number of people who died to give us our freedom is far more than the number that have died as a result of it. Thomas Jefferson once said, “I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.” This is the type of reactionary hysteria that he was worried about. Personally, I would rather take that small risk of being one of those victims than to give up my best defense against a tyrannical government. You have no right to take that choice away from me, the constitution is very clear on that.
i see soundness in your reasoning. even though i disagree, i appreciate your sharing that. Smilie Smilie

Wait, you were actually being serious? Sheesh, go hide under your bed or something. People get killed in horrible ways every day and it's horrible. Just because you saw this one on the news more doesn't mean it's any more tragic than every other murder on the planet.
no.. i think i'm serious prob <10% of the time i post on here. even now, i claim to be serious.. but not really.

i guess what i'm trying to say is i think there are other alternative equally (or perhaps even superior) cool/awesome ways of saying sweet deal... Smilie Smilie Smilie

Which one worked for you?

I think there must be different software versions because none of these codes provided work properly with the on off button not the person button for me.

I bite the bullet and picked this up for $349. $299 is slick but $349 is still a great deal in my mind. Very happy with the TV so far. Picture quality is great for the price. Also, for a lower end brand, the TV looks nice and is thinner than I was expecting. Audio is also pretty decent all things considered. Just need to figure out which of these DirecTV codes work and I should be good to go.

Edit: I got EW50T5KW which appears to be slightly different from the one the OP posted. It appears it's thinner but only has 2 HDMI instead of 3. Honestly comparing the TV I got and the pictures on the Target web site, it looks like EW50T5KW is the sexier of the two.

I have the purplish tone sometimes too but not on the skin mine is where the set is trying to do blue color, but what's getting on my nerves is red sometimes being pinkish tone. The red carpet on the Oscars was pinkish on my set not red at all. Some of the Nascar cars were pinkish instead of a red. Thinking of returning and trying another set and see how that goes and if the same color issues on the next set I'll just get a refund.

Hooked mine up last night in the bedroom. It replaced a 4 year old 26" 720p Westinghouse. Have no real complaints about the picture so far.

It seems from all the comments that it just might be an overall problem with all the tvs. Mine's the same. The not being able to adjust the RGB or tint is a real pain. Maybe someone will find a hack that can unlock them. I really want to keep it but the color problem is too great to be ignored, at least for me.

Well after a couple days and a few test movies - Avatar and Harry Potter, I decided the picture does indeed look great for a $300 TV, but I'd rather spend a little more on TV with a picture that looks a little better. As I was moving the set around to get it packed up, there was a snap, krackle and pop- no more backlight. Returned it to Target as defective- back to trolling the forums for the next TV deal.

I just got my last night but when I was going through settings, I saw a hue adjustment. I think that might fix the problem.
