DEAD/OOS

Was walking though Target yesterday and noticed the Westinghouse 50" LED 1080p 60Hz TV [target.com] was on limited clearance for $299.99 (reg $599.99 previous sales for $499.99)

Talked to the guy at the tech department and while there were none out front he said there were a few in the back and the deal was live (Sawmill Rd/Dublin OH location)

Might be worth checking out to see if other stores had the same offer

Hooked mine up last night in the bedroom. It replaced a 4 year old 26" 720p Westinghouse. Have no real complaints about the picture so far.
FYI, your 26" 720p has higher detail than your 50" 1080p.

It seems from all the comments that it just might be an overall problem with all the tvs. Mine's the same. The not being able to adjust the RGB or tint is a real pain. Maybe someone will find a hack that can unlock them. I really want to keep it but the color problem is too great to be ignored, at least for me.

I just packed mine up and returned it and got another one to see if the red will be red and not pinkish. Will get it hooked back up and see if the exchanged one is any better. But, I do think you are correct as an overall issue. I want to keep mine too but like you said the color issue will get on your nerves.

Funny how sometimes red is a nice color red and others it's that pinkish red.

Did some digging to see if there was custom firmware. Looks like someone over at AVSforums started working on it a couple of years ago but abandoned the project: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1128245...ew-project

It's Linux based but unless we can get a copy of the latest firmware I don't know of a good way to access it and look at making updates.

I'm planning on using the latest AVS calibration disc on mine this weekend and see what improvements I can make. It's not perfect but for an occasionally used TV in our bedroom it fits the bill.

Mine does not have that problem. The color is actually pretty good on mine. Everything has been for the most part what it would be on my 50' plasma, minus the crushed blacks i get on the LED (and the obviously lighter back-light). However, i cant boost the gamma, and its not that bad unless its a dark movie. I really don't see a huge difference between this set an my Panasonic s30. In fact after seeing this TV, and then looking at my 50s30, i am disappointed that i paid $1000 for that in 2011.

Hopefully you can report back and let us know. There aren't many left around here so it'll be hard to go find a place to do a return but I'll do it if it means the colors are better.

I bite the bullet and picked this up for $349. $299 is slick but $349 is still a great deal in my mind. Very happy with the TV so far. Picture quality is great for the price. Also, for a lower end brand, the TV looks nice and is thinner than I was expecting. Audio is also pretty decent all things considered. Just need to figure out which of these DirecTV codes work and I should be good to go.

Edit: I got EW50T5KW which appears to be slightly different from the one the OP posted. It appears it's thinner but only has 2 HDMI instead of 3. Honestly comparing the TV I got and the pictures on the Target web site, it looks like EW50T5KW is the sexier of the two.
what DCPI does the EW50T5KW have?

Will be happy to report back. My store went OOS when I got my first one on the 18th but they got more stock in. Maybe your stores will get a stock update in case you need it. The price in my area is still $299.99. Have no clue when this price will end.

it has two...and after looking at the picture on targets website. mine is different. I am 99% sure that my controls are on the bottom right of the TV and not on the side. when i get home ill look...

so wait? i am confused. are there two different models to be had? the ew50t1xw or the ew50t5kw? is target selling them interchangeably? i read an ebay post that one was better than the other?

If anyone was wondering, I've attached an image of the box for the EW50T5KW. Just in case anyone wants to know what version they're buying based off the box. I'm not sure what the box for the EW50T1XW looks like. I'd assume different. One thing I noticed is that the picture of the side profile of the TV on the box doesn't match the side profile of the actual TV. The front image looks right.

does your tv have the controls on the side and not underneath?
