credit rating questions (thinking of getting a new cc)
i have a couple questions about things that impact credit ratings, but first let me outline my situation:
i have pretty good credit. ~750 last i checked.
long history of credit, long history of no late payments.
around $25k in revolving credit, with real low utilization (< 5%).
i've never had any type of rewards card, and i'm thinking of getting my first (feel free to recommend some).
the things i'm wondering about, in regards to my rating, are inquiries and total accounts. i gather that the more total accounts you have, the better. i also read that the more inquiries you have, the worse. that's somewhat of a catch-22. do i take a credit hit by applying for new lines of credit, which then would boost my credit by having more accounts open? also, this would lower the average age of my accounts, which is also bad, right? what's the best way to proceed, in this regard?
edit - also, should i get an amex and/or discover? i currently only have visa (2) and mastercard (1). is it worth it to have at least one of each?
