Was going to purchase one for my sons room but the site is attempting to charge shipping? Is there a code needed to get the free shipping?

Is it solid wood? It looks like cheap partical board with laminate surface.

I bought this for my son's room the last time it was on sale. It is particle board. The worst thing about it was putting it together. It's a serious pain in the ass. If I didn't have good mechanical aptitude, I probably never would have got the thing together. Instead, I would've burned it in effigy, then burned it for real, then buried it and waited for it to come back as a zombie desk and burned it again.

But other than that, it's a decent desk for the price.

The finest select hardwoods chosen from trees whose extinction occurred thousands of years ago and handcrafted by pygmy elves using nothing but their bare hands. All for $65!

I bought this desk when it was on sale for $70.
1. It is particle board.
2. As someone else mentioned, this desk really is a pain in the ass to assemble, it will take you quite a bit of time to do so.
3. The keyboard tray was WAY to low for me to use. Even without the keyboard tray, there isn't too much clearance.
4. If you can deal with the first 3 observations, this desk very well may be for you. I have been very pleased with it so far. Once constructed, it's been very sturdy for me. If you want the worlds most professional desk, this isn't for you. But if you just need a decent looking desk with a fair amount of storage, I really don't see how you can go wrong with this.

Okay, I'm confused. Were the trees handcrafted by the pygmy elves prior to their extinction or were the hardwoods derived from those trees what was handcrafted? When I see shifty language like this, I figure someone is trying to pull something on me.

Sucks that this is hard to assemble. I'd sort of given up on any chance of easy to build furniture, but the christopher lowell shore mini solutions one that Office Depot had last month was the easiest thing I've ever put together. They had actual directions with ~ one step per page, each step had the parts to do that step in a separate plastic bag, and I had it together in about 20 minutes. Very well thought out.

I have this desk and for $65 (I think we paid $70) it is a good solid desk. Putting it together is best with two people, and once its together its very solid.

The only thing I hate about it is the very sharp edges.. I keep a mousepad handy for resting my wrist on.
