TIPS for this model from an owner... most can be found in the manual:

1. As mentioned, it is best to use distilled or filtered water, particularly if you get the white dust.
2. It generally works best on "medium" speeds. If you turn it up too high, the mist doesn't travel far enough into the room and falls too early. Only turn it up high enough so the mist travels up in to the air... if your mist is falling down, you have it turned up too high.
3. Clean it weekly with vinegar/water mix. It will prevent build-ups and bacteria.

This thing easily runs 16-20 hours without a refill on the optimal "medium" setting.

What ratio mixture of water to vinegar?
When you clean it do you just rinse it out with the water:vinegar mix or do you run it with some of that in the reservoir?

We have had ours about 3 weeks now and plan to keep running tap water. We only run it nights the kids are displaying cold symptoms.

Nope, apparently amazon doesn't have price guarantees anymore. I tried and got turned down several times. Not happy with amazon right now.

It's the way it should be. Have patience and wait for the item to go on sale on Amazon...isn't difficult.

At the same time, if you're within the window of returning the item (and you determine the cost of s+h is worth the reduced price), it makes a lot more sense for Amazon to just give you the discounted price.

Yes, if someone does whine enough...sometimes they refund to make them go away. They also do the same with bans..so I would tread lightly if I was you.

I'm not sure why you're so up in arms about getting a price difference refund when you purchase an item recently. It's not unheard of for stores to have these policies. I'm sure there have been studies that show a price difference guarantee removes some of the indecision of buying something and a small percentage of people actually take advantage of it, even when they know it exists.

I read a lot of reviews about the animals and have consistently read about low humidity output and leaking problems.

The Drop design appears to be a more consistently good product. Just sayin....
