Looks like eTron USB 3.0 controller gets thumbs up from toms hardware

If you motherboard has built in support for USB 3.0, but no ports, then you can very easily add those ports using one of the products. However, if you have a intel based motherboard based on Z68, P67, and X58 chipsets, you do NOT have native USB 3.0 support and will need to add in a controller like the Syba. My case already had USB 3.0 ports, but my MB did not, so I have to add the add in controller. |

Be careful if trying to download the drivers from the manufacturer website. AVG blocks it for me saying the page is virus infected. JS/Redir.BL
The included drivers on CD worked for me. The infected URL is: http:// it.us.syba.com/support_download/download/index.html <= breaking it up so a link is not created. |

Do you need three rear ports? Or would you rather fully support a two device header for, say, two front USB 3.0 ports? All Intel Panther Point 1155 chipsets support USB 3.0, AFAIK. (Z75, Z77, H77, Q75, Q77, B75). Your Z68 Cougar Point chipset does not itself support USB 3.0, Rev 3.0 support on the m/b would be provided by a third party USB 3.0 controller chip such as the Etron used on the cards discussed in this thread. Almost the same price, but based off of the renesas chipset which is OS X (Hackintosh) compatible! Just got one and is working at full speed on both my windows and OS X boots. |
