Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III for $100 or Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS $149

I just find out that the 55-250mm is II is selling for $120-160 brand new on CL. I guess Im cancelling the order.

These are for Canon EOS mounts. The EF-S lenses only work with crop sensor cameras (like t3i, t4i). EF lenses work with both crop and full frame (ie 5d).

The 55-250 is far more well regarded. But if you're shooting high shutter speeds outdoors, IS is moot. Still, the 75-300 (not to be confused with the 70-300) is inferior image quality overall.

That's not true..it's a decent lens if on a tight budget and at the $100. price, it's a deal. Two of my favorite lens review sites for this (and others) lens:

There's another SD running now on the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG APO lens for $149. and a much better better lens (I have it).

Regarding IS (image stabilization): while it's nice to have in certain situations, if one braces or uses a tripod/monopod you will get clear, crisp shots. I have captured sharp images hand held at full length with the Sigma, but it takes a steady hand and no wind.

Thanks OP. I was able to get the 55-250mm with the coupon and some Staples Rewards. Sounds like there is enough overlap btw this lens and my 18-135mm that I probably will end up selling it. Not a bad way to flip some SRs, considering it's going for $50 more on Amazon. Repped.

55-250 is a good lense. I absolutely love my 55-250 and Sigma 30mm 1.4. But $150 for a 55-250 is nothing special. Ok, slightly warm, but not hot.

And stay away from the 75-300 indeed!

Compared to what I have seen recently, have not seen Craigslist, this is a good deal. Worked for me on the lens only. $40 more in staples rewards makes this great deal for me. Now just hope it does not get cancelled. Thank you.

Do you know of any inexpensive comparable super zooms for a 5D? Cause the 55-250 won't work.
