Collections On My Credit Report

I have something that was sent to collections on my credit report that I've unsuccessfully disputed with Experian. How else would you go about getting this removed from your credit report? My credit score has been hurt because of this (still in the mid 600's), but I don't want to be hurt in the long-run financially (for example, higher interest rates on loans) because of something that shouldn't be there.
