Basically, you're hoping it's #3, since that works out best for the buyer. If it is #3 though, the dealer will not be an authorized Nikon dealer for much longer, since Nikon doesn't take too kindly to their policies being broken. |

B&H sells grey market lenses directly so why would they go through a 3rd party to sell them? B&H also makes a ton of sales and brings in a ton of cash so they would never risk their relationship with nikon to make a couple extra bucks by violating nikon's policies. the op of this thread also seems way too defensive. |

So it appears these guys were ordering lenses from B&H and Adorama and then immediately re-selling them at a 30% loss. Interesting promotion. Can someone who bought something verify whether the price on the B&H or Adorama invoice is in fact 30% higher than the Bootic sale price?

I'll give everyone here some advice: Nikon's prices are fixed. They will always be the same at every authorized dealer (give or take a few hours for promotional prices to be updated). When a vendor has a discount, all of them will, because it is authorized by Nikon. If you find a lower price at only 1 location for a Nikon item, it is either gray market, stolen, used, or refurbished.

There is another possibility.
Nikon had a not very good quarter recently. Because of that, they are currently running a bunch of instant rebates on some of their popular lenses without camera purchase requirement - that is very rare for Nikon. Now, it might also be possible that Nikon USA approved hush-hush sales under MAP for some of its biggest resellers such as B&H and Adorama. After all, Bootic rep stated to me that the sale was sourced from different official Nikon dealers in the US. Last edited by sav; 02-19-2013 at 09:25 PM.. |

And no, Nikon would never do that. The entire purpose of the price controls was to help the smaller vendors (Nikon makes the same amount of money either way). When they need sales volume they introduce rebates - for ALL of their dealers. |

So anyone that received lens can you confirm the price you paid the was amount on the invoice?
I used to work at a local stereo shop and the owner would sell item sideways all the time. It's kinda forced on by the vendors. There was no way a small shop could meet the minimums to keep a contract with so many different Vendors. If another shop wanted to sell alpine, jl audio, zapco, or any other brand they would just call us and we would sell them whatever they wanted at b cost to be sure and move enough product to be an authorized dealer. This could be something along those lines but seems more like a case of fraud to me. |

now people are getting items from Adorama! the chances of B&H being involved were already next to nill but both B&H and Adorama. no way. both companies are huge high volume sellers. fraud all the way. |
