Credit Card help! Just married, looking to build credit & get a good amount of cash back
Credit Card help! Just married, looking to build credit & get a good amount of cash back.Tried Amazon, they only approved for $400 as we have 'no credit,' despite a decent score. Looking to build credit and start getting in on some of this sweet cashback. Anyone have any advice on a good card or way to go about it? Was thinking about Newegg as I spend a great deal there - nowhere near as much as Amazon but still $400 I found insulting lol. I was trying to buy a $500 kegerator! Thanks in advance, you folks are the shrewdest I know! |

For Amazon, you could purchase gift cards and add them to your account. You might be able to buy them locally. A gift card balance on your account reduces what you owe by CC. |

Might want to try a little App-o-rama. Find a bunch of cards you'd like to get and apply for them all at once so none will see all these new inquiries on your credit report. The inquiries and new accounts, assuming you get any, will hurt you in the short term but really the worst they can do is deny you and you can try again in a year when the inquiries no longer matter and your accounts have aged a bit. I wouldn't bother with Newegg though. I've had their preferred account for years and it never showed on any of my credit reports.
Discover IT, Chase Freedom, Capital One Cash Rewards are all good for cash back and all but Discover have at least $100 sign up bonuses available. The Barclay NFL card with $200 back after spending $200 appears to still be active as well. Also, get an AMEX card as soon as possible because they're the only company I know that will back date a new card to the date you first got a card with them. This could be a big help later on with your average age of accounts since it's unlikely you'll keep any card forever as terms change and better deals come along. Citi is nice to have just for the virtual account numbers. Discover also does virtual account numbers but I think Citi does it better. EDIT: I forgot, there is a $75 Amazon gift card offer with Discover IT. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AW3IXZO Last edited by bondiablo; 02-20-2013 at 08:34 AM.. |

"bondiablo" gave some great info. I just put "Barclay NFL card with $200 back after spending $200" into the search and got this http://slickdeals.net/f/3907678-2...-Visa-card With all you'll be spending some of these cards would be great to get the minimum spend levels meet. If you read through some of the cash back card threads you'll learn lots of tricks. |
