I searched and did not find this, please correct me if I am wrong. SwiftUnlocks is having a promotion to promote their petition at the whitehouse.gov [whitehouse.gov] petition website. Follow these directions:

1. Go to http://www.signunlockpetition.com
2. Follow the 3 STEPS
3. Please read terms & conditions
4. USE REFERRAL CODE: SWIFTUNLOCKS and REQUEST UNLOCK

Should take about 1-2 days to have your phone unlocked. They need about 25K more signatures.

As you guys all know, unlocking is going to be illegal in USA. There is an online petition which will help our cause to fight back. Lets fight back and have this new DMCA overturned.

In order to give incentive to our customers and citizens of this country, we are offering ONE FREE AT&T IPHONE UNLOCK (will takes 1-2 DAYS). You can pass this word around to friends, family, classmates etc.

The petition got about 400 signatures in the past hour. That is equal to around 10k per day if sustained (obviously its a lot slower at night).

Everyone please share on your FB accounts as well.

do you think a simple 100,000 anonymous online signature petition will reverse the bill which already passed and signed into law by obama?

coupon didn't work for me, but I went ahead and paid $2 to try the unlock, even though I've unlocked several through AT&T and could unlock it for free through them. Worked great and they were way faster than AT&T.

Read posts #121, 128, 130 and the BusinessWeek article for the answer to your question.

Actually, the DMCA law was passed on October 12, 1998, by a unanimous vote in the United States Senate and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on October 28, 1998, around the time he was getting impeached, the DMCA amended Title 17 of the United States Code to extend the reach of copyright, while limiting the liability of the providers of on-line services for copyright infringement by their users.

And the answer to your question is expect not much from this or any other similar petitions!
It's the White House way to let the citizens vent in a harmless way!
It's better than having them all go out and buy Glocks and AR-15s to protect their rights!

Nope, but I have hopes. If there's no hope then there's no point in life. I know there's a lot more steps after the petition but at least we show them people do care. Either way I'm going to still get my phone unlock wether it's illegal or not.

Both AT&T & T-Mobile allow you to unlock your phone if your account is in good standing for 60 days (may be 90 but not sure), unless if you have an iPhone (then wait until your contract is over).

If you purchased/upgraded your phone on or after 1/26/13 then they legally don't have to let you unlock your phone but since it isn't an iPhone, you might be ok if your account has remained in good standing. YMMV
