I searched and did not find this, please correct me if I am wrong. SwiftUnlocks is having a promotion to promote their petition at the whitehouse.gov [whitehouse.gov] petition website. Follow these directions:

1. Go to http://www.signunlockpetition.com
2. Follow the 3 STEPS
3. Please read terms & conditions
4. USE REFERRAL CODE: SWIFTUNLOCKS and REQUEST UNLOCK

Should take about 1-2 days to have your phone unlocked. They need about 25K more signatures.

As you guys all know, unlocking is going to be illegal in USA. There is an online petition which will help our cause to fight back. Lets fight back and have this new DMCA overturned.

In order to give incentive to our customers and citizens of this country, we are offering ONE FREE AT&T IPHONE UNLOCK (will takes 1-2 DAYS). You can pass this word around to friends, family, classmates etc.

The server is likely down. For whatever reason, it goes down quite often. Check back later tonight or tomorrow.

It wasn't down when I checked. It just doesn't give you the SIM lock status anymore:

Quote :
Device IMEI: ***************
Product description: iPhone 3G 8GB Black
Telephone technical support: Expired
Warranty(repairs and service coverage): Expired
Activation status: Activated
Is registered: Yes
Contract status: Out of contract
I actually saw a video on YouTube that references this site [youtu.be], and there used to be a row that showed the SIM lock status at the bottom.

Did anyone get an email notifying it's unlocked? I'm still waiting and I did it last night (over 24 hours now)

It seems that there is no way of checking if iphone is unlocked instantly via a website. If you really want to know, you can call at&t and they might tell you,but much easier and more reliable way would be to buy the free micro sim from tmobile

This was a scam to get people to sign the petition. They are not unlocking phones

Yeah, I spent a while searching for one, but it looks like they all wised up and are charging $3 and up to check lock status.

I haven't gotten the unlock email but I went ahead and tried to unlocked it and it unlocked.
Here are the steps that works for me if you're not familiar on how to unlock your phone via IMEI code. Warning that you may not have all your settings restored as with all restore methods via iTunes.

1. Download and install the newest version of iTunes and have an active SIM card in the phone.
2. Connect the iphone via USB and have iTunes detect your phone.
3. Backup your phone TO YOUR COMPUTER (not to iCloud) via iPhone summary menu on iTunes.
4. Click on Restore iPhone
5. After restoring, you may get a message on iTunes that your iphone have been unlocked

coupon didn't work for me, but I went ahead and paid $2 to try the unlock, even though I've unlocked several through AT&T and could unlock it for free through them. Worked great and they were way faster than AT&T.
Who did you pay $2? Link? That seems like a decent deal (AT&T hasn't seen fit to unlock mine, bastards...)
