I searched and did not find this, please correct me if I am wrong. SwiftUnlocks is having a promotion to promote their petition at the whitehouse.gov [whitehouse.gov] petition website. Follow these directions:

1. Go to http://www.signunlockpetition.com
2. Follow the 3 STEPS
3. Please read terms & conditions
4. USE REFERRAL CODE: SWIFTUNLOCKS and REQUEST UNLOCK

Should take about 1-2 days to have your phone unlocked. They need about 25K more signatures.

As you guys all know, unlocking is going to be illegal in USA. There is an online petition which will help our cause to fight back. Lets fight back and have this new DMCA overturned.

In order to give incentive to our customers and citizens of this country, we are offering ONE FREE AT&T IPHONE UNLOCK (will takes 1-2 DAYS). You can pass this word around to friends, family, classmates etc.

I haven't gotten the unlock email but I went ahead and tried to unlocked it and it unlocked.
Here are the steps that works for me if you're not familiar on how to unlock your phone via IMEI code. Warning that you may not have all your settings restored as with all restore methods via iTunes.

1. Download and install the newest version of iTunes and have an active SIM card in the phone.
2. Connect the iphone via USB and have iTunes detect your phone.
3. Backup your phone TO YOUR COMPUTER (not to iCloud) via iPhone summary menu on iTunes.
4. Click on Restore iPhone
5. After restoring, you may get a message on iTunes that your iphone have been unlocked
Strange didn't work for me... although I signed up for the unlock less than 24 hours ago.

Dunno if acurate, mine says it's still "Locked". I'll wait a little more before doing a restore due to the fact that I've spent hours jailbreaking, finding, and setting up all my tweaks in cydia. Unlocking is not a big of deal for me right now, although it would be fawesome.

Anyone needing a detailed IMEI check, PM. I'll run a couple codes for anyone who does not know the carrier their phone is locked to. Free of course.

info:
1) I unlocked using the website in the wiki: http://www.swiftunlocks.com
2) I am not affiliated with them, I just couldn't resist seeing if I could get an unlock for $2, even though I am eligible for 5 unlocks per year from AT&T for free.
3) I am jailbroken and I did not follow normal instructions. From within Cydia, I added http://repo.bingner.com as detailed here: http://www.bingner.com/SAM.html
4) I installed SAM prefs
5) de-activated my SIM
6) connected the phone to iTunes and it re-activated using the Apple servers and was unlocked

I got this email:

Thanks for SIGNING THE PETITION.

Thanks to SWIFTUNLOCKS - for this free iPhone unlock

Make sure the Iphone is updated to the current 6.1 or latest version for your model
Make sure ITUNES is updated to the 11.0.1
Make sure the phone is not jailbroken. You will have to remove the jailbreak (lower baseband). You can google/youtube how to do this.

Also try doing this process again on another computer. Also if the phone is reported STOLEN/LOST it will not work on USA GSM. It will only work overseas. The phone will not work on Sprint/Verizon/Net10/Straighttalk

Also if the phone is NOT ACTIVATED, it will not work. You will need to activate it by using an ACTIVE AT&T USA sim card

To complete the unlock, simply:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed. Make sure an sim card is inserted in phone.
2. Open iTunes on your MAC or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
3. Connect your iPhone to iTunes by USB cable.
4. Back up your iPhone. How to back up: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
5. Complete the setup assistant and restore your backup
6. After the process has finished, disconnect your iPhone, wait 10 seconds, reconnect to iTunes. It’s fully unlocked.
I was worried that the old inactive ATT SIM I had wouldn't work, but after fiddling with it for a while and realizing I still had airplane mode turned on, it worked and my phone(iPod) is unlocked. Popped my T-Mo SIM in and it took a while to get a signal at first, but everything(data/messaging/calls) works. Nice to know I can use it as a backup if anything ever happens to my phone.
