Which printer to get? Canon imageCLASS MF8380CDW or Brother MFC-9560CDW?

Hey guys,

After researching for a MFC printer for our small business, I've narrowed it down to these two printers.

* Canon imageCLASS MF8380CDW ($299 at local Fry's)
* Brother MFC-9560CDW (~$470 online)

We use it mostly for monochrome & color laser printing (single-sided) as well as scanning. Not so much for photos or anything. At first, I was set on the Canon but the only thing that is detracting me from it is the printing speed and perhaps price per page ratio. However, it is much cheaper than the Brother (so far from my price research) that it could potentially make up for it.

Anyone own one of these printers and can comment on their usage?

No experience but Brother in general has good reviews as an excellent printer. I was very surprised as back in the day I thought they were junk. In fact I just bought one yesterday.

The same model as the one I was talking about, or in general?

No experience with the Canon model you mentioned, but a close friend of mine uses the Brother printer you mentioned for her home office (she runs a small business out of her home). The most annoying thing about her printer is that it seems to have a mind of it's own. When you are printing pages that have lots of underlining, or that have blank lines like on forms that are to be filled in by hand, the lines are often wavy instead of straight, sort of look like they are slightly dotted, and out of alignment. She thought something was wrong with her printer, talked to a technical support person, and they told her that some jagged lines were to be expected with this printer. Unfortunately those wavy like lines appear more often than not when you are printing a dark color, and are especially easy to see on black and navy blue lines.

If you are printing documents for in house use, then the printer's results are okay. If you plan to pass things out to customers, or make any type of business printable with this machine, make sure it's in black and white and not color. The colors on this machine are the worst that I have ever seen on a laser printer. The colors are very dull and muted, and look like you are printing in pastels. The red is the worst, the color is so light that it looks almost pink. This occurs even when the printer is brand new, and when the settings are correct for the printer. When you print pictures, make sure that they are not pictures taken with flash, because the bright areas will become blurry and you will lose the details in the photos. The photos that print on this printer are unacceptable in my opinion, worse than a $40 all in one printer like the one that I currently use.

If all you plan to print is black and white and text exclusively, than this printer will work out just fine for you.
