One of the reviews on Amazon and on another board stated that if you put some tin foil on the bottom right of the kindle (where the screen off magnet would be when folded back) before you put the kindle in, it will block the magnet enough that you can fold it back without turning it off. A bit of a hack but seems easy enough! I'll do this before putting my device in.
Didn't work for me, but thanks anyway, I wonder how long it would be until we get a replacement... Might contact them tomorrow
I just got mine last night and I think it's great for $5. The first time I put it on my Kindle it would put it to sleep when I folded it back around. However, I took my Kindle out, messed around with the cover a bit (to try to break it in I suppose), re-installed it and now it works fine with no accidental sleep. I'll have to try again today after work to see if it was just a fluke or not.
One thing I noticed on mine is that right out of the box it doesn't close on the Kindle very easily. It seems like part of the binding gets caught on an edge and doesn't close unless you maneuver it properly (by sort of pulling the front cover up toward you and around to the right). I'm hoping it just needs to some time to break in, otherwise it'll be quite annoying to have to close it in a specific way each time instead of just closing it casually.
Folks, aluminum foil does not block magnets, it only adds space. You need a very thin layer of steel. an old razor blade perhaps? (The foil works for some people as a spacer, not a blocker)
You sir, along with science, win this thread! Not to mention the production of aluminum has a huge environmental impact so please don't waste it as padding lol use a wad of tissue or something similar instead.
