I highly recommend using a credit card that can generate virtual CC #'s . Use them to generate card numbers with very low credit limits - say $5 or less - that way you won't even need to bother cancelling.
If you are worried that the points won't post think of it this way: 1300 RR points are worth approx $20 and I'm guessing there's at least a 50/50 chance the points will post, personally I'm more than willing to risk 99 cents on a 50/50 gamble that has a 20 to 1 payoff. Slight warning -> I had a really hard time cancelling my free trial. Called, got CSR, got confirmation number that subscription was cancelled, they still charged my card.
Repeat three times, each time also having to call the card company to dispute the charge - which was ultimately reversed. I suppose the upside is that I had access to the NYTimes for over 6 months for $0.99, but it was still annoying that their routines for cancelling were so buggy. If you do this -> keep detailed notes when you call to cancel -> Name of CSR, time, confirmation codes, etc -> and be prepared that it might not work the first time. |

FWIW, 1300 SW points are worth $21.66 toward SW flights since they typically redeem at 60 points per dollar.
Or maybe even more than that. I just priced a flight at $239.80 or 13,080 pts + $5. In that case, it only takes 55 points per dollar, so each point is worth 1.8 cents. |

American is my airline of choice, wondering if 1500 miles is worth paying $56.46.
120 days / 7 days in a week = 17.14 weeks(round up to 18 weeks). Cheapest subscription option is "After the introductory period, your rate will be $3.75 per week, billed every four weeks." after the first four weeks for .99 cents comes out to $56.46 after 18 weeks. My math could be wrong so I wonder if this is worth $56.46. Personally I'm not missing out by not having a NYTimes subscription. |

i bet the other user's AMEX didn't go through because of the additional $1 they put on there. i think he/she said there was only $1.xx remaining on his card. in that case, it wouldn't go through. |
