Lenovo Outlet: Ideapad Yoga 13 Intel i5-3317U 1.7Ghz, 4GB, 1600x900, 13.3" IPS, Touch, Scratch & Dent - $798 + Tax

I own both. My thoughts:

1. The Yoga has a damn nice screen (1600x900). The Lenovo Twist is (1366x768). Both IPS, which is a positive regardless of which you get.
2. The Yoga’s memory can be upgraded while the Twist cannot (soldered 4gb).
3. The Twist uses a conventional 7mm 2.5” storage drive which are more common and cheaper to upgrade than the mSATA chips.
4. The Twist has Gorilla Glass, but Lenovo has never advertised what glass the Yoga uses.
5. The keyboard is much better on the Twist (along with the trackpoint).
6. Wifi is a 2x2 antenna on the Twist, and is much better than Yoga. A lot of people reporting signal strength issues on the Yoga.
7. Yoga gets around 5 to 6 hrs when used conservatively (brightness less than 50%, power saver mode), while the Twist gets around 3.5 to 4 hrs.

I've spent many many hours looking for deals on this laptop, my son gave me a deadline to buy this laptop/tablet by yesterday and eventually had to buy it from Costco yesterday. after tax and shipping it came to around 1100 bucks.

Newegg/ebay/amazon all had this for 1000 (no tax/no shipping) but spent 100 more just because of Costco's good return policy and free Folio case and 1 year accidental/spill protection policy. best-buy/office-depot/Staples also has this for 1000 bucks, but without any other perks that Costco has.

the only problem with Scratch & Dent from lenova is that you never know how bad of scratch/dent it is.. particularly when you get this for your son to show-off to his friends :-)

I'm still debating on the practicality to replace an iPad with this......
I don't play a lot of music, do play some video, some news feed to read throughout the day, and a bunch of pdf specs or drawings that needs to be handy at all times.

Best buy has open box on these so you can check out the condition for yourself. I bought a beat up store display for 600+tax.

There was only 1 best buy near me (in 100 miles) that had it in stock. It had quite a few scratches on it as if someone had dropped it.
Here is a good review of most touch and ultrabooks [thewirecutter.com]. I think the upgradability, HDMI output, SD card slot, and a second hard drive bay makes it better than other products on the market.

Staples has this under the "Twist" name [staples.com]for as low as $650 NEW either last week or the week before. How's this a good deal?
