REI does have an insane return policy. My Patagucci arrived yesterday after a lot of hassle from UPS and USPS.

For all the talks about ventilation. I don't have a Precip but was on a hike where it rained all day pretty heavily, I had 2 hikers with me who had the Precip. I think they had the 2011 version (it was 2011). The temperature was about 50-60. They were layered properly (A single layer of summer synthetic hiking shirt underneath). 1 hours after putting on Precip both complaint about not breathing well and sweating.

Keep in mind that this is neither Goretex or eVent and you are paying much less than those so do not expect it to give you exceptional breathability. But as a daily user (not very technical) then this is a great deal. Too bad I'm not in the market for a rain jacket.

I was talking to REI saleman when shopping for a water proof hiking pants and he said similar things about Precip pants. They were made from the same material and technology and he mentioned Precip is not going to breath very well. Those were designed to work in temperatures below 50, and waterproof is the foremost concern.

Cool. What did you have and how did it do?

I imagine someday I may buy a more expensive one as long as it's not much heavier. Damn the REI Kimtah (eVent) is $239. Only 15.5oz so really close in weight. Someday, lol.

I was miserable because I had a TNF jacket that was not totally waterproof. Later I got a Goretex PacLite because of that experience. Dunno about weight but it wasn't that much heavier and I mostly go on day hikes so weight is not that much of an issue.

When I was in Portland REI had their eVent on sale (in store) for about ~$110. Too bad my jacket was only 1 year old and had absolutely no problem and I did not have the cash to upgrade...

We could all always use better gears. Someday.
