I switched over to Synology and it was a whole different story. It was very easy to setup, the experience of course is uniform, there are plenty of apps to choose from, and it does everything I ask it to. In the end for me all the time customizing things the way I wanted it wasn't worth the effort or time when I could pay a little more and get everything I wanted. All perspective I guess but for me it was worth the extra money. |

Thank you , sn_85,
I have been on the HP WHS EX495 and EX470 running in parallel. I recently suffered a 2TB drive loss. and realize that many of my 1TB drives, 1.5 TB drives, and even 2TB drives, all of which are western digital green drives. are going to go probably sooner rather than later. I have not have good luck with the WD EARS 2TB Green drives. I think i have had two of them go in the last year. I also use the sans digital enclosures x 2 (1 with each WHS box) I cant complain. Ive replaced one power supply in 4-5 years on the boxes. Im just want to move to something with smaller footprint for energy and isnt soo loud. The innitial investment will be k, and one OS drive. inda steep, but I am glad to hear you speak of the migration to the DSM experience with synology as a positive one. I cant complain overall about WHS, my 2TB drives capped out at 48 each from staples before the floods. The most recent failures hit about 3 months outside mfg warranty on drive. I never did get around to fixing the head park issue , ( didn't actually know about it till i started researching issues with the the green drives, EADS, EARS. etc. Oh well. Time getting close to move to Synology platform. |

Amazing how many people dont understand this. Yes you can do what Synology does for much cheaper. But it will be alot more involved, complicated, power hungry and not nearly as app/management friendly. At this point in life, my time IS my money. And its simply not worth me pouring hours and hours of research & maintenance into a product to save a $100 bucks. There's also something to be said about the compact size and resale value of Synology products. I might have paid $299 for my DS213.. but I have no doubt I could sell it for atleast half that, when Im ready to upgrade to a bigger unit. |

Amazon is not interested in price-matching newegg on these. You would think $50 would be a no-brainer for them. But alas. they mumbled they dont have a price match policy and directed me to the click to tell us about a better price. (which I did like 15 times from 5 different accounts). I had amazon gift cards to use up.
-3 pnts for Amazon in my book . Can you all keep clicking on tell amazon about better price. I think they are ignoring me. Im just waiting for the price drop. Got two more $25 kindle cards. With my current credits I am at $700. I think $650 is the magical number with 12 months financing and credits from $950.....come on Amazon YOU CAN DO IT!
