Doesn't the charge only cable cost like $5 or more. I also have this and it only charges Android Phone at USB level with he supplied charging cable or any other cables I have.

Better might be to buy a charger with that money

You should not need to modify the charger as modifying the cable connects the two leads and this is what is needed.

However, I think you would be wasting your time as only certain devices (like the Nook) won't accept higher then a 1amp charge. As such, their cables are already modified.

Most phones (pretty much all) won't even accept a 2.1amp charge. From what I can see, any thing in the 700mAmp range is going to be enough. Granted, I suspect using a ton of resources at the same time might allow a higher amp charging but I suspect not much more (otherwise a 500mAmp charge would take all day to charge a phone).

There is certainlly nothing wrong with using a 2.1amp charger. However, chances are good that without the correct cable and hardware to accept that charge that it's going to be a lot less. But I'd also not recommend anything less then a 1amp car charger.

Modify a regular USB cable and you are good to go. I.e. short the data cables that's all you need to do.
