Laptop warranty - replacement being sent, is this a fair offer?
I spent $2100 on a custom built laptop 3 years ago and bought a 4 year ADH warranty. I recently sent the computer in, and they said the parts needed can't be ordered and that my laptop will be replaced. Based on those specs, they offered me a laptop, custom built with some options, that would sell for $1200. Is this standard practice? Is it unreasonable for me to expect a laptop a little closer in value to what I paid initially? Thanks for the help! |

Yes, don't expect $2100 worth of computer. For that amount you would probably be getting something with way better specs than you have now. Your replacement should have at least the specs of your current computer. Since they're building it for you, maybe have a SSD thrown in.

A lot depends on what the deal of your 4 year warranty is.
Assuming it's a replacement value type deal, then it wouldn't be surprising to find that today's $1,200 custom built laptop is equivalent to the one you got 3 years ago for $2,100, as technology moves and advances so rapidly. Naturally, I/we don't know the exact details, but the offer they have made, seems to be pretty spot on, IMO. |

Seems to be an adequate substitution on the warranty provider's part.

I worked with an insurance company and dealt with these situations a lot of times. You don't get a $2100 worth of specs as it would be too much by today's standards. Posts above are right, you only get what you had at that time or something equivalent to that.
