Thread Details

Just got a job and it's time to (finally) update the old tube.

I've been doing some research for a while, and when I find a good article it turns out to be from ~1+ years ago.

Plasma TV's and computer gaming are out of the question for me, but feel free to post for others looking for the same thing.

I'd also prefer a TV with apps (specifically Netflix), but I have a HTPC so it isn't a deal breaker. Price isn't really an issue as long as it's reasonable, I'm willing to wait until some of these 4K TV's come out so the prices drop on 3D/HD TV's. And, if it matters, I have both PS3 & Xbox 360, and I plan to grab the PS4 asap

Finally, is 240hz really important? I know from a technical side it makes more sense, but how noticeable is it?

I've done some 3d gaming and it hurts my eyes after 10 min, same with my friends who have done it also.

I also think putting it in 3d mode by add response time delay.

Make sure you try it out first before shelling out the money for 3d.

3D gaming is fun for a SP story, but I wouldn't ever do it for MP.

Also, currently, the consoles kind of suck when doing it, but the PS4 might be different.

The GAME is in charge of the 3D output, all fine and dandy until you try to bring up the guide or have a friend hop online. You can't read anything that would pop up as it doubles over on itself. My Cable box does the same thing.

The 240 Hz is nice. I think it improves the picture if you have a crappy signal, personally. When we stream movies from our desktop to the Xbox 360, our current 3D TV (Sony 46") looks a lot better than the 4 yr old 42" we had.

The Sony has the 480 MotionPlus or something like that.

All depends on the game. Some games pass the signal so that display automatically detects it. With these games, the guide and all notifications display properly. The newest Sonic game is like this.

For the Xbox 360? That would be sweet. I've only played Gears 3 in 3D and watched the Olympics in 3D. In both cases, it was pretty poor execution by the players/content.

So you're saying PS3 sucks at 3D gaming despite not having played any PS3 games in 3D? Scratchchin

I am saying my Sony Bluray player can't do it correctly...but if you are saying a different model Sony Bluray player that costs more CAN do it...then...more power to it! Wink And I said the gaming/content worked fine, it is just the secondary functions that are messed up.

Yes 360. I want to say there is another game that executed 3d in the same fashion...but I can't remember what it was. I know Crysis 2 and Gears 3 were like you are talking. Download the Sonic demo, you'll see what I am talking about. The pre-release demo was 3D enabled. I assume the post release demo is as well.

It would seem we've both done the same amount of PS3 3D gaming.

laugh out loud in that case...

OP...the PS3 can only do 1D actually...just stay away from it, it sucks.

I've got a Samsung UN55D8000 and love it - they do a good TV; supports Netflix, HBO Go, and a few others.
