Anyone had any luck finding jobs requiring general computer knowledge
I'm pretty swift on the computer, from hardware to programming, but haven't seen many jobs that seek people with generalized knowledge, at least in my neck of the woods. I wonder if there is any opportunity somewhere for working via the internet? I've done work for friends around the country just at home, editing, proofreading and modifying files for use on web sites. I know html, css and can get things done as long as there are instructions and time enough to complete the task. I don't even have high expectations as far as money goes. I would just like to find some steady work that could keep me busy and help me pay the bills, something where I don't have to worry about getting paid on time (nothing dodgy).
I also don't want to write shill reviews or do anything that seems dishonest. That's the difficulty I've had with many opportunities on E-lance; many of the "jobs" seem to be a little shady and dodgy, and others require very specialized skills (foreign language, advanced technical training). The ones I am qualified for seem to get between 20 to 30 applicants. Besides these issues, there is also the point that Elance takes an 8.75% cut and charges the job applicant for many of its "services". I would much prefer to just work for one or a handful of employers rather than bid on piecemeal tasks that pay $10 - $20, if they pay at all, while competing against scores of others.
