N4 is unlocked w/o contract. $300 for 8GB and 350 for 16 GB, + shipping + tax. But Google has a 1-2 wks delivery time.
OK thanks for the info! I obviously wasn't aware. I do obviously get tired of people asking why you paid so much for an unlocked Iphone etc when they think they are just $50 (when in truth they are paying out the a$$ with their expensive plan contract for the next 2 years). Its absolutely painful to have to slowly explain the difference to stupid people.

if you read the other comments, all you have to do is call up Tmobile, tell them you want to move your account to the new microsim, give them the number and then youre all set.
OK thanks, I may consider this phone then. I got my dad the Samsung Exhibit for Christmas and was blown away to see I could connect via 4G with my Tmobile plan that has basic data (edge) which I currently use on my Iphone. This was before I started to see connections to 3G towers with my Iphone which has started to occur the past couple months.

Yeah - I did the math and the sales tax in my cart = my state's sales tax rate x $369.99. It's clearly wrong, that's not how sales tax works here or in most places. I wonder how long T-mobile has been over collecting sales tax in the online prepaid store and if there's a class action suit in their future? Probably worthwhile to notify your state's consumer protection agency.
OK, I didn't buy this phone, but just got curious and did some googling and it looks like tax is supposed to be charged on full price if a service contract comes with it. Something about bundled vs unbundled prices.

See links:
http://articles.latimes.com/2010/...s-20101026
http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?...id=8561881

So, unless I'm misunderstanding, people should not be charged full tax in this situation because it is not a bundle.

Anybody know how to unlock
Get unlock code from T-Mobile

Unlock Code: x26920295xxxxxxx

1. Insert T-Mobile or Non T-Mobile SIM card in to the device. Once the device is powered on the screen should display Invalid SIM card Network lock

2. Tap the Dialer

3. Access secret menu by entering 2945#*769#
(after inputting this a pop up box will appear)

4.Touch the blinking cursor, and enter in the unlock code

5. Click done

6. Click unlock

That might be the case in California but certainly not the case in my state, where sales tax is based on sale price, period. And the sales tax numbers are all over the map, if it were the same everywhere everybody would be reporting the same amount of sales tax.
this happens in the state(located in east coast) where I am living.
I remember to pay the tax of the full price phone ~$45 where the full price phone was ~$500( based on their price).
it was free phone (good), but had to pay a full price in tax (Not good. this was a 2 years contract.

For the micro sd, its true that you cant move apps to the sd card which is really silly for a phone with a smaller internal storage. However, its possible they may fix this in the Jelly Bean update thats coming, or you can root the phone and theres a number of methods to use the micro sd as the internal storage.
Where is all this talk about Jelly bean update coming from? I have had this phone for months and have seen nothing about this. In fact all the discussion I have seen is that typical for tmobile is that there won't be any upgrade/update. So where is this talk coming from?

Thanks.

Yeah I'm still weighing the pros and cons of both phones. I noticed that the Optimus L9 doesn't have a light sensor so it might be a hassle to adjust the screen's brightness every time the environment changes.

Although the L9 is lighter and thinner, I'm still thinking if that is enough to offset the external storage memory problem. A member mentioned that the L9 doesn't use external microSD cards that efficiently so it's just mainly the phone's internal 4gb of space (might be much less since LG has bloatware) that will be used.
I was looking at both too but I think I will go for the Amaze, just trying to find a good used one. Here is a link for comparison between L9 and Amaze:

Overall Amaze has a better/compatible processor, better camera, faster speed, 12 GB available for storage, I just can't risk buying a phone that only has 2 GB of storage and hoping for a fix later, and I don't want to bother with selling the refill card either. Just my 2 cents

I got an att 4s and can use the micro sim on the l9. How to I test the speed?

edit.. just did it with my att sim card.

Did the test twice (with speedtest.net app)
1st test: dl 6840, upload 1058
2nd test: dl 7237, upload 1133

not sure what these mean.. can anybody confirm?
That's 3G to 3.5G speeds (HSPA on Tmobile), basically you can do everything just like on a home broadband connection, including streaming videos, music & play games.

I agree. Although the L9 is a nice phone, I still think the HTC Amaze is a nicer phone overall. It may be heavier / less compact but it is packed filled with features which I like.

I just received the confirmation email.
For me the phone was charged as 209.99 and sales tax on that 13.12
for a total of 223.11.

I dont know why the phone is charged as 209.99 instead of 199.99.
The customer service rep. I spoke with had no idea why it was charged that way.

You guys have more experience with this than I do, but are Ptel and Gosmart essentially the same coverage map as T-Mobile? Do they do the free roaming that T-Mobile does (or at least used to do?) Does T-Mobile still do the free roaming anymore?

Thanks!

The model number listed for the L9 is not the T-Mobile version.
