This is one of the craziest purchases I have made by far.
Here is how it went for me.
- Saw this thread.
- Added to cart.
- Was trying to read all the specs.
- Came back to this thread to read comments.
- Someone reported OOS.
- My 15 minutes in the cart were running out and made a purchase.
- Immediately called my credit card company to insure they don’t put a hold on the charge as I was shipping to my family member’s address and not to my address. They told me the charge already went through………..Wow!!
Dude, if you hate windows 8 because it doesnt have the start menu, go to the marketplace and search start menu. I use pokki, keep it on desktop mode and run that as your start menu and its basically windows 7 people.
Same here, I bought one and I don't know why This is absolutely a great deal.
I almost lost the one I added to the cart, while I contemplated what to do with it if I bought it. Then the system freaked out on me, not recognizing my password which I knew I entered correctly.
This is very easy to open up and upgrade stuff on. See the service manual here[ftp].
First thing will be to pop in a second SODIMM and clean OS on an SSD. 4GB will run just fine, but installing a second module will make it run dual channel which gives the onboard video a performance boost.
PS I've been buying refurbished Dells for years. I've bought "previously new" that came beatup, and I've bought scratch & dent that came looking like new. So there's really no telling until you receive the thing.
I also have been getting "refurb" and a couple S&D for years. NEVER a problem...except for loosing tons of profit for Dell shareholders.
Yes AIO pc tend to die faster in my experience, but for this price who cares. Great office/family room pc as is. Processor is fine, even ram, but a cheap $80 SSD really is a tempting idea. They really do a great job on even C2D so this will be NICE.
Please give windows 8 a chance and save yourself time of clean install. Works better on lower spec machines like this. Just load classicshell, to make it feel like windows 7. Then remove dell bloatware, McCRappy AV and leave it. Save time to image to SSD or for when users eventual screw it up.
I'm old school so I clean install for myself, but for most normal users. Debloat, hide scary win 8 with shell, copy over their favorites and setup chrome to look like IE so they stop using IE!, Put a shortcut to AOL or whatever crap was on their old pc (screen print desktop and menus before you toss it) Then hope mom/sis/office drone using this never calls you.
