Yes, there actually used to be tales of people finding crates of unused ammo from WWII etc for hard to find calibers even in the 90s.

The key is to keep the metal from expanding/contracting and from letting the powder dry up/get wet.

If you keep those two things from happening, the bullet could could in theory shoot 100-200 years from now.

Check into dry storage cases. There are still lots of those for sale.

at the average rate of $0.80/round i rather shoot virtual bullets online.

I just don't understand the run on 9mm ammo. Its not like it is .223 or 7.62. Most 9mm, 380, .40 and other ammo that is now always out of stock is usually used for handguns.

You're right. President Obama has nothing to do with the spike in ammo and gun prices. The fact that President Obama is taking every opportunity he can to push for more regulations in the gun world has no impact on pricing/availability.

This is analogous to the "gun manufacturers kill people" argument. Yes, he has something to do with it, but he's not directly responsible.

If the ammo manufacturers could keep up this would be a complete non-issue. And presumably, at some not-too-distant point, this level of demand will drop off a cliff, hopefully to the point where prices drop to the same or a lower level than before.

Reloading is the only way to go. I know it's also hard to find components too, but not as hard. You also get more coinsistency and you can play around with the loads.
