You can't image a disc because you don't get a disc.

Chances are, if Microsoft really intends to enforce this requirement, they're not going to provide you any way to move your activation from one PC to another.

good thing I was able to snag 3 keys for Office 2013 via HUP and was able to secure a dvd installer also...

this article is referencing "RETAIL" copies....same stuff you see at BB, Staples and B&M...

"If you purchase a single-user copy of Office 2013 from an online reseller (including the Microsoft Store) you get a product key code. If you buy a boxed copy of Office 2013 from a retailer, you get a product key on a card. In either case, you have to go to office.com/setup."

That's still not going to help you if MS refuses to reactivate the key on a different PC.

HUP states that it can be installed on 2 units, presumably a laptop and a desktop....

How many times between those two is almost irrelevant unless you really have a crappy computer or just like to swap HDD / parts and reformat all the time.... But, I heard people have to call in after the 4th activation for MS to activate it.

that's an enforcement question that for now MS can't answer...but yeah, that's a very good scenario...

maybe it's up to your good morals to not use the "older" image of your pc after moving it to the "newer" image on another pc.

Which installer? The retail key you buy won't work with Technet ISOs.

What about transfers beyond the initial laptop and desktop?

Well that would probably work, but I think that in any scenario where the software wouldn't deactivate itself (so up to replacing your motherboard probably), you will probably be able to reinstall it and reactivate it. It will see that it's on the same PC.

AFAIK, the exe installer MS is distributing is a stub that downloads Office on-demand.

You could clarify by just stating where you're downloading the ISO from and what type of Office install it's for instead of making me guess...

I transfer a lot. Up until the 2013 beta, I was using Office 2003 and have gone through probably a dozen different systems, both laptop and desktop.

then I guess, 2013 isn't for you....I don't transfer keys, hdd's or parts a lot so it works for me...and for the average joe...once it's installed, it stays there unless some catastrophic failure brings down the pc.
